  • you're right. htfu.

  • HTFU ya blouse!

  • yeah i fucking thought that

  • I'm just about ready to throw my bike out of the window and have a nervous breakdown.

WHY are my rims not accepting any tyres. My fingers are red and almost bloodied, im extremely sweaty. There are scratches in my shiny new braking surfaces due to using metal tyre levers after breaking plastic ones.

700c rims with a 13mm inner diameter should take 700 x 23 tyres right?!! Surely, what am I not seeing? I've bought Vittoria Rubinos and now Michelin Spedium 2s and neither is going anywhere near the rim.

I've tried every technique and tip online.

I'm starting to think I have a manufacturing fault on my Rigida DP18s. But then again, I have two rims from completely different batches (bought from separate places) and theyre just the same.

What the hell do I do?? ARGH

  • Scobleman can help!

  • But I want to ride my new bike out in the sun today! HELP ME OUT, PLEASE!

If anyone could meet me and give me a hand/sell me a tyre that is a bit looser I'd be extremely grateful. I'm actually fuming at this wretched thing!

  • Scobleman can help!

    Where can I find him?

  • I got to the end of my tether trying to get a new tyre on my mountain bike and bought a long handled, metal, teflon coated lever. Got that bastard on in a flash. You can borrow it if you like. PM me.

  • Not around till tmorro PM tho.

    Condor Cycles.

Have you tried inflating the tube within the tyre, while thy're both off the rim? It stretches the tyre just a tiny amount, and that could make the difference.

Also, talcum powder works very well at getting a tight tyre to slip more easily onto a rim. But I'm sure you've tried this one already. Apols.

  • Is the wheel true/built correctly ?
Had a similar problem once where I couldn't get tyres on a fresh wheel built but the wheels were not quite true. Had them re done and they went on alot easier.

  • Just got them on with the help of two blunt knives.

Worked really well. To think, that's what worked in the end. My fingers are torn to shreds though from all the attempts.

Now to get brakes that have a very shallow drop and my project will be rideable. I had Shimano 600 calipers but they are pinching below the braking surface!

Thanks for the advice. To think, an entire build from scratch, including the wheels, and the only bit I struggle with is getting the tyres on!

  • It's not a 'Project' you tit, it's a 'Bike'.

  • well I don't know if it's a bike yet. Just about to ride it now. Wish me luck.

  • Are you riding your 'project' as it is in the above picture?

  • I've added a brake pulled from the loft! Not foolish enough to go brakeless. Oh and I haven't finished making my custom pedal straps so I was slightly wrong in riding carefully without foot retention. Lovely and silent ride!

  • when tyres are new its pretty normal for them to be as tight as hell.
Talc + tube inflate + 3-5 strong plastic levers + swearing = usually does it.

I remember getting a set of tubeless MTB wheels and thinking they were the shit. And they were, it was ACTUALLY impossible to get certain tubeless tyres onto them (without tearing the sidewalls, or the bead coming away from the sidewall). Had to order some bontrager ones from a US bike shop that were a 'looser' fit. Even with those I dreaded punctures (it was essentially a 2person job) so much that I soon sold the wheels and went back to normal tube in tyre type.

  • wash the sand out of your vaginas and get one of these

  • The ONION WASH is highly recommended. Get it from Boots The Chemist, and tell then Ed sent you.
