  • @ Cpt. Howdy - nice build - what did you use to route the cable for the front mech?

  • ^^lovely!

    QR on wrong side though

    cough

  • Waiting for black levers and tape for the roadie. The Raleigh to the right will be a Porteur/Light touring build.

  • Ciöcc: It won't be finished until the weekend.

Full of envy. This is a cruel world.

  • Thanks - I used a random braze-on at the bottom of the downtube. Luckily it works with this old campag derailleur, so I didn't have to add anything else to the frame...

  • After over a month riding it with no gears as I could not wait and was impatient, I finally completed my Roberts last night, with new tyres, etc... As you can see I don't mind mixing groupset brands / periods, I think it works... Changed the carbon straight seatpost as everybody I met was shocked to see a black seat post on that bike... So I found something more conventional (and heavier :) but might revert to the carbon one that looked cool IMHO...

A bit of shimano 600 tricolor and Rsx for the derailleurs, shifters and brake levers, a bit of campagnolo for the headset and brake calipers, a bit of truvativ external hollow BB and crankset, mavic open pro rims and Perrin Maillard Professional hubs (28H), and thanks to the forum: Cinelli stem, vintage NOS specialized "Turbo" tyres... and of course the frame in the first place

Can't wait for a sunny day to ride it...

I think it's time for me to move on from freewheel to cassette now I finaly have a 130 rear spaced frame, so this wheelset will be for sale maybe at some point. Or if someone wants to do an exchange that would accomodate their vintage build...

  • Very nice veLLo.

  • Lovely bike Loic.

  • looks excellent. I liked the carbon seat post, but silver works well too.

  • Looks so good in the flesh that bike Loic. Great stuff. Lets have a steel roadie outing! When I get the Concorde back from Brussels...

  • I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for the final pics.. you always seem to build the nicest bikes... (The £100 track bike included).

Where do you get them resprayed?

  • Dov does them.

  • Cheers Andy!
That's a lad on the forum right? Is it his business or something he has access to and does for pals?

  • a few small changes. next up is the big (and expensive) change to 10 speed.

  • This was Teenslain's polo frame until a few days ago. Now it is my snow/ice winter ride (when fitted with fat tyres anyway).

I put this together with parts I had knocking around hence it looking pretty fugly but it is meant to be a functional bike anyway. The question is, how wide a tyre should I risk putting on the DP18s?

I have never owned a bike without drops...I am very freaked out by the riding position but I'm sure it will grow on me.

max tyre for the pomp is 32 I think? should be just about OK on DP18 I think, but maybe 28's would be a safer bet

  • This is off to Armourtex soon. I'm thinking either flat white, or possibly cream - Ideally I'd like a translucent blue with the steel showing through, but I dont believe powdercoating will allow it.

Fitting it up with a Campag athena set, which I hope to remove the decals from, and will potentially switch out the shifters for Chorus ultrashift mechanics with the athena levers.

TB14 rims on White Industries H2/H3 hubs. Continental GP4000s tyres.

then thinking of running white outers on the cabling and brown leather bar tape/seat.

    Stem TBD.

    Thoughts? ;-p

When you said to me last time we met that you were up to something and did not want to say more, I did not expect less... Amazing quality taping, that is obviously of the standard the rest... don't make us become too impatient...

  • Getting there. Hopefully have everything but the bottom bracket tomorrow, probably finish it mid next week.

  • Remember to use a torque-wrench. We don't want any snappy-snappy!

  • Torque-wrenches are for the ham fisted

  • Ha! Yeah, definitely being very careful with this one

  • Headset: tighten no more than three stiff unit-jam-jar lids.
