I'm also keen to know where and which part of the chainset needs drilling to stop them getting worse?
Quite a common technique. At the end of a crack you drill a small hole (1mm or so) which will stop the crack in it's tracks, you can then use a tig welder to fix the crack. Or if the cracks are quite small (as they look in those pictures) then just drilling a small hole at the end of the crank will be enough.
You might want some coloured penetrative fluid (can't remember the proper name) from an engineering workshop to determine the exact end point of the crack.
