  • mmcarthy, those Shimano M183s seem to have a soccer stud/cleat at the toe! How extreme is your commute?

I find Shimanos very narrow. Bontrager makes the fitment of the SPD cleat really difficult - I've nearly sliced a finger off in the process. If you have a wide foot, I'd say Specialized - never tried the Muddy Foxes though.

I ride an SS MTB, I run up a lot of muddy hills as a result, the studs come in very handy!

  • seeing as field and trek is part of sports international i can't see them selling anything that will be that good

Gustav had the second ones you linked to and said that they are not waterproof, which has struck them from the list.

Me too. Had found a good link towards the end of last winter. But doent look like I saved it (probs out of date anyway). If I find them again I'll drop you a PM. I'll probably get a pair to collect from the parent over xmas.

The less hardcore ones are Event, which is a very breathable membrane. Just not 100% waterproof.

I've never bothered with these before, but they came on my new Northwave aerolite 3s. Nice for sticking a toe out when cycling over soggy branches too.
