Hello from Norway.
Have kindled the embers of my riding interests for the last two-three months and ended up here, along with some other biking sites, primary touring interested and on a "mission" to get back to the "one man - one bike" philosophy of my younger years in the 70s (wow - now I felt really, really old.), not so much because of a philosopy back then, but because one bike was all that was "allowed" or needed.
For the moment the stable contains a late 70s vintage Peugot 10 speed tourer, a hand me down from my father, that have resided on a roller or stationary trainer for more than a decade but wich I contemplate getting in roadworthy conditions again and a 2008 Giant SRC City thats still unridden. Must hurry to say that it was a layover when bought.
I
m also in the big and tall variety, beeing 6
8 and around 275ish lbs, so finding fitting bikes, dare I say, interesting...:DAnyhow, glad to have found you fellows and looking forward to hanging around here... :-)

Hey guys and gals.
New here, just having a browse and it seemed like an intriguing community so I thought I would stick around a while.
Not really a hardcore cyclist, but will be picking up a bike for my daily commute to work from home, Wembley to East London. Much cheaper than the £1200 plus I have paid on transport over the past 12 months. I am only here another 3/4 so will be picking up a cheap(ish) single-speed for my commute.
Ciao for now.

Good afternoon everyone. Just signed up today. Not new to cycling but will soon be new to single speed! Got a new job closer to home so will be commuting by bike, my trusty old diamond back from the early 90's. Love it! Currently looking for some single speed conversion kits as i'm sick of the gears and fancy the simplicity of a single gear.
Can anyone point me in direction of info for single speeds for beginners? Info on parts, ratio's etc?
Cheers in advance. Phil . -

Hey people, I've just arrived on the deck.
Basically I think I've been swindled into my most recent bike purchase (a £40 piece of junk, HAWK cycle in very poor state) and want to make sure when I substitute it I do something right, like get a bike with a steel frame, sealed bearing hubs and deep rims, among other things. A proper beast, not a floating turd.
Let the games begin.

Hi!
I'm new here...I've been on here a few times but I've decided to join up now. I got a single speed a few months ago and never used it a lot but I'm not planning on using more often for my commute from north London to university next month.

Hi all,
New here, and having to post (rather than lurk!) to get myself out of the nursery feature of the forum.
Not new to cycling though.
Been riding and racing for the the vast amount of my life so far, and have a seriously unhealthy obsession with tinkering with bikes ever since my Raleigh Styler BMX I had when I was about 10. After nearly killing my sister by not tightening up the bolts on her brake cables properly I nearly gave up, but perseverance paid off, and I built my first race bike at 15..........been building ever since, but simply just for fun, and only for family and friends. Two years ago I decided that I didn't want to keep having to clean up my beloved road bike with it's full Dura Ace group set after every minging wet ride in the winter months, and so with my brother-in-law moving to London and riding fixie I had the idea of building a singlespeed (I've had my right knee surgically repaired so fixed isn't a good idea) to get to and from work.
This resulted in the acquisition of a Raleigh Special Products division Reynolds 853 frame and forks, which then got brought back from the death, tidied up, and then resprayed as a perfect replica of the famous Raleigh Banana race bikes from the late 80's. This has now done an awful lot of miles including the Norwich 100 bike ride in June this year.
Now looking to build a singlespeed for my wife for winter riding, and am looking to build a singlespeed TT bike for winter training.

Hello John, and welcome.
I'm currently sitting here scratching my head why no-one had apparently thought to take out that username before. :)

Ah yes, I've got it now. It is conceivably just slightly dangerous to be called 'Food' on a forum full of people who ride bikes. Hope you'll be OK. :)
