Huh?
Hm?
I understand if none of what I wrote makes sense to you, but if only part of it has not been grokked, I'd be happy to clarify.
Usonian = US - I resent "american" being used to designate that country. The Americas consist of land to the north and south of that place, too. Also, that term came from one of their own.

*that *chainring on the black and yellow BMC.
is it ovoid ? why ? does that make pushing up 130 km long very steep hills easier ?
i demand to be educated......
It puts an effective higher gear in the power sections of the pedal stroke, and a lower one in the dead sections. So the 50T ring acts more like a 51/52, when stepping down/up, and like a 48/49 when pushing forwards/backwards. Its meant to reduce fatigue, by shifting more of the work load to bigger muscles.
After a single 30km ride, my thoughts are.....
Its barely noticable while cruising on the flats, but does seem to work against the 'circles' technique, fixed riding has taught me, slightly. But I'm sre I'll get used to them.
It feels feels good when sprinting, and climbing. When my technique is most stressed.
I cant comment on the fatigue thing obviously.
No, but it makes it easier to fleece punters for £120 when round chainrings of similar quality are about ⅓ of that price.
This^
In the same way you're better off losing body fat, than buying lightweight cables and bolts. I guess you're better off working on a fluid technique then just forking out for these. Although maybe the fatigue reduction is real. TBH I need to put more kms on them.
I liked them though. But then I'm the sort of twat that buys lightweight cables and bolts.
(Paid half the RRP on spanish EBay BTW)

nuknow - that Merckx is a repost
By the way - the steel Colnago is porn - even if it's got a triple and even if it's got an ugly saddle. The paintwork is awesome and it's in unbelievable condition - I'd take it in a second.

I'd imagine you couldn't use it on a fixed? Put the chain tension in when the cranks are horizontal (or vertical - whatever, when the 'flat' bit is at the top / bottom of the ring), then it would tighten as the ovoid bit came up...
