Not sure, back in the 70s we had the big red ones held on with jubilee clips
on early mtb style hackers (cow horn handle bars, oh yeah).
Nobody stopped us. -

Im 99% sure airzound's are legal, however I have no links backing this up.

funnily enough the other day i was behind an mtb, who, when a car did a dodgy manoeuvre in front of him let off an air horn
very loud it was too
didn't see what type of horn it was but it was impressivei'm sure it looked something like this though

that's the airzound, it is indeed surprisingly loud HONK!

I've got one, and they are very loud when pumped up. Like tyres though the pressure drops and the day comes when you wish to warn a pedestrian who's about to step in front of you and out comes a pathetic "meep!"

When you use it like crazy during the day then I am sure you are right - I saw one today with a 2L bottle. I got a standard size botle, but can confirm that it is very loud - so much that I was afraid to use it today and so was cycling very slowly to avoid situations where it was necessary to use a horn. That sounds like a paranoia.
But the main question still remains: are these legal/illegal and does anyone have something to back it up?

I don't believe there are any regulations at all on fitting horns/not fitting them. You can do what you want. I don't see why it would be illegal.
They are certainly legal to sell.

Slightly longer answer- Noooooooooooooo.

Dangerous to use on pedestrians in my experience. It makes them jump and they always jump straight into your path.
I wonder if my airzound still works...

from what I remember of my highway code (so could easily be wrong as I don't drive) we're not aloud (sorry) to use car horns after the streetlights go on (i.e. after dark) but it never stops them

You MUST NOT use your horn
while stationary on the road
when driving in a built-up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 amI've got an Airzound, it gets used a lot, it's very loud almost car horn loud, 120dB.

I am developing a horn that plays a selection of Muse guitar solos. You'd like it.

I'd rather have airzound blown repeatedly into my eardrum than listen to those fucking sadsacks.

Hi,
Does anyone know if air horns (like airzound) are legal in UK, maybe a paragraph from the highway code? Looked through HC on direct.gov.uk and no information about horns.
Also tried the search on LFGSS and still no joy.
Thanks.
