  • holy shit, glad you're alright.

  • good luck with the claims, have no mercy.

  • did the driver say anything? like sorry? or was he just a total plum?

  • I got actual chills reading that, very glad to hear you made it relatively unscathed, as other have said get a good solicitor and get everything you deserve!

  • Sounds horrific, glad your still in one piece though, another few feet in the wrong direction and you might not still be here.
A lot of motorists emit so much anger over loosing a few seconds of their journey its almost pathetic, I drive 20-30k a year, many different vehicles, some I'm not always that familiar with and every time I come across a cyclist I always make a conscious effort to go round in good time/place and if necessary drive in such a way that it forces others behind/oncoming to give the cyclist room as well, few people think like that though, only the seconds they might loose from their journey.
You've done the right thing, 2 note able witnesses, details and police incident number straight away; its just a matter of time until you get the claim ball rolling. But don't let it take over your life, carry on as best you can, spending too much time flustered over it will only take you back to the incident in your mind.

    Excellent reply!

  • F*ck me that is scary.
I had a similar but nowhere near as frightening incident with a Royal Mail lorry, which I followed up, although I wasn't hurt. They were pretty good at promising to retrain their driver.

Now whenever a lorry begins to overtake I slow right down, brake even, to let it pass as soon as possible. No point in arguing as you have so eloquently described.

  • Police confirm prosecution for careless driving is intended.

  • I've just read you opening post for the first time. Really chilling.

Glad your ok, and it's being taken seriously by the law.

  • I got actual chills reading that

    +1.

you're lucky. glad you made it.

  • just read the op. thats a chiller.

hope you are on the mend. regards FB

  • Jeeze - SCARY !

  • i wonder what he will get charged with?

    being a very naughty boy.

just a cyclist so no biggie*

*not my opinion, just the current legal status for anyone who dares ride a bike on the road. good luck with the case.

  • Hate to see someone lose their livelihood, but hopefully this guy will have his licence taken. There but for the grace of God....

  • Well done on keeping your shit together,
It sounds as though an unsurvivable outcome if you had of gone down.
    Keep riding

  • Driver pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention, fined £240 and given 6 points. Now that's proved my solicitor will initiate the compensation claim.

Given he wilfully chose to smear me against a wall rather than stop I think it's a pretty paltry punishment but hey ho.

  • Its a bit of a bargain for him. Not giving a fuck if he killed you only cost £240. Hows that intense recurring back and neck pain thats been stopping you from living a full and rewarding life these days and have the nightmares that have been making you impotent stopped yet?

    You get the idea?

  • Fuck.. glad you're ok to see this outcome!

  • He probably got a considerably lesser punishment by pleading guilty and has a good chance of loosing his job as well.

Not that this makes the judicial process any better.

1894mk1 good luck with your claim get a good payout that can buy you something to turn 2012 into a superb year.

  • The £240 is pretty paltry it just shows what courts and judges think of us but the 6 points on the license is a result that is going to cost hime thousands of pounds.

  • Haulage firms are pretty funny when it comes to points on licenses, they nearly all insist on a clean license so I wouldn't be surprised if this guy gets sacked.

Glad your ok and you can get some rightly deserved compensation from it!

  • yes glad you are ok.

well done for seeing the matter through.

  • 240 quid and 6 points? That is outrageous.
Compared to what people who took stuff during the riots got, absolutely unbelievable.
I hope the compensation is substantially more in keeping with the trauma and damage

  • Haulage firms are pretty funny when it comes to points on licenses, they nearly all insist on a clean license so I wouldn't be surprised if this guy gets sacked.

They still hire them, they hired the driver who killed Edith, and then went on to kill an old lady last year.

    That was my thinking.

  • They still hire them, they hired the driver who killed Edith, and then went on to kill an old lady last year.

I stand corrected, some clearly don't care!
