There was a migration of groups in the early middle ages from the south west of the british isles to north west france, Armorica (not to be confused with the modern superpower), and naturally enough, they brought their language with them as they established a foothold. While the other regional language of Brittany, Gallo, is based on concurrent latin migrations.
