from the look of those hills I suspect there will be quite a lot of walking involved.
but this is OK! because I like walking.

Walking is overrated

ok so I have put lights on the bike. and a mudguard, just in case. I'm now staring at an empty saddlebag having a massive mental blank. 3 tubes, 5 co2, multitool, levers, patches. then food? socks? rain jacket, overshoes, arm warmers, leg warmers? I dunno. I can't cope. blaah.

those all sound reasonable. I haven't started packing yet but probably wearing 3/4 length tights, winter boots (I whinge about cold feet easily), 3/4 length sleeves and then taking a waterproof. Will probably take a hoodie too but that's to pad out the saddlebag more than anything.

wish I was in a position to start padding things out instead of worrying it will all fit =/

Pump?
In the pannier I've got windbreaker, waterproof, legwarmers, cable ties, plier multitool thing, map. Food.
I'm going with longsleve and shorts to start with then I'll see how cold it gets. I can only find one of my nice mitts, so I'll have to go with the shitty old ones. meh

shit, I haven't seen my gloves for days.
tom - if you can get it to the station, I can carry stuff on the ride till you've made space by eating or whatnot. (eating food I mean, not eating armwarmers. I have had way too much caffeine.)

have cunning plan when it comes to getting things to station. prepare to be impressed.
I might palm my overshoes off to you in that case, rosie. weather looks fine atm but it's the poole -> london leg I'm worried about =/ -
• #185
that's lucky, seeing as you are likely to be miles ahead of me on the Bristol > Exmouth leg and me carrying your overshoes will be no use whatsoever :D but yep that's fine.
I am intrigued by this cunning plan.

and I am going to a balloon party at 6pm! I don't think I can handle this additional excitement on top of everything else. I need a stiff drink.

If it stays clear we could see the Perseid meteor shower!

• #188
ohwow.
I have no words.

• #189
it gets better and better.
cunning plan thwarted by misremembering available resources. back-up plan not so cunning. -

So far I've packed some eyeliner, an iPod and the work press phone. It's going very well.

I have acquired bread! and maynards sports mixture! everything going according to plan!

Good luck everyone and have fun. It's an awesome route.
Save a treat to nibble at the 5-6am hour of weirdness – the time when it's getting light, but still getting cooler. That's the only part of the ride I've found hard.

Ok now I'm jealous I'm not riding it!
