Suppose there is a island with just one male barber. On this island, every man keeps himself clean-shaven by doing only one of two things:
Shaving himself, or
going to the barber.Another way to state this is:
The barber shaves all and only those men on the island who do not shave themselves. All this seems perfectly logical, until we pose the paradoxical question:
Who shaves the barber? He shaves himself.
It's equivocation.
This line is faulty: "The barber shaves all and only those men on the island who do not shave themselves." - it needs 'and himself" adding to it.

This is not a thread!
That is a faulty claim, this is a thread.

These are threads -

Piece of piss, did it in less than 3 hours.

'"mankind is doomed" is doomed 'is a faulty claim

Not really a paradox but:
"if I asked you to sleep with me, would your answer to that question be the same as the answer to this question?"

5/2 does not equal 8/3.
The hypotenuse in both "triangles" is not a straight line. Ergo, neither of them are actually triangles. -

You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't

The set of all sets that are not members of themselves.
(And that triangle one made my head hurt until I realised the hypotenuses weren't straight.)

Not really a paradox but:
"if I asked you to sleep with me, would your answer to that question be the same as the answer to this question?"
this links nicely to the first date ideas thread.
and I love the triangles- I feel so much calmer knowing it wasn't just me -

The set of all sets that are not members of themselves.
I'll see if I can russell up any ideas on this one.

The set of all sets that are not members of themselves.
What an odd statement.
a set that is not a member of itself is easy to define - and empty set is not a member of itself, it exists but it has not members. so...
the "set of all sets that are not members of themselves" contains at least all the empty sets, I could go on if I could be bothered.
Try to define an empty thread in the domain of lfgss then, I dares ya. It has to exist if the domain is to be valid, as does the identity thread and the nul thread. Actually could a thread be an opperator?
The recursive thread exists
http://www.lfgss.com/thread71173.html
I'll go back to the maths thread now >>>>>>>>>>>>

So does the recursive post
-
• #50
So perhaps the thread is the domain and the post are the elements. We could have a thread mod(p) p=prime where the post p would be equal to post 0 etc.
A bit like the bike porn thread. Repost would be the identity.. or maybe the null operator, reducing any post back to the original post....
Oh, Russel.
