  • Social rehab doesn't have to be meaningless / soft touch. There are a shitload of things that need attending to in this country, many that would involve learning basic manual skills and applying them, working under supervision to help fix the country's transport infrastructure etc. Maybe it sounds a bit dodgy - chaingang or whatever - but doesn't that kind of thing:

    • keep you occupied
    • put a lot of energy and testosterone to good use
    • make you feel like you have a stake in the creation/maintenance of society
    • improve job prospects / personal development (if/when there are jobs again)

    Isn't that better than shooting them in the face?

    But is it done, though?
    And now the cuts...

    It has to be done - one or the other. Either tougher sentencing where appropiate or social rehabilitation. Both seem to be in shambles and effects of this we can see right now on our streets. It's not even a speculation anymore - just go out on the street.
