  • I thought it might be worth separating this out. Who 'from the forum' has been affected by the riots in the real world? I haven't--I've kept away.

    So far I've noticed:

    1. nuknow--trapped in his flat in Lower Clapton while a riot was going on right outside
    2. metrocammell--his lovely pizzeria was attacked
    3. el_squire--his shop was looted
    4. The Stylist--victim of bikejacking
    5. fixbmx--his shop was looted (Manchester)
    6. MinhDinh--has helped his sister's boyfriend defend his shop

I'm sure I've missed some. Any others?

  • Pizzeria attacked and looted :(

  • One of my trainees who lives in Tottenham canceled her lesson tomorrow because she does not want to stay there tonight.
A minor thing, obviously, but then I thought to myself, blimey, lessons are being canceled because of rioting. It's, well, unexpected.

  • jogger-was sort of trapped at work on Mentmore terrace.

  • i'll leave it or Rich or Craig (both forumgers) to confirm but i heard on FB that Deansgate Evans, where they both work, was looted

  • My flat window took a brick thrown at it by a gang outside on Hackney Road (think they were heading to Bethnal Green Road). Fortunately we had metal shutters fitted outside which stopped it going through.

They then shouted "let's get the bus!" which was waiting outside my flat. Thank fuck they didn't...

    8. Scratchy sent home early from work on Tuesday- that cost me £100
  • Daft question, what are we going to do with this information?

    9. NurseHolliday&Cake -- Couldn't order pizza for 2 whole days from our favourite, Pizza GoGo, on Tottenham High St. We actually feared it had been burnt down.
  • I live just off Lavender Hill and couldn't get to the shop for some icecream on Monday night.

How can I be expected to watch riots on the t.v with no icecream? Fucking disgrace..

  • we should show some forum solidarity and feast at the pizza place that was done
send cards of sympathy to the guy who couldn't get his haagen daas

chip in some parts for the stylist who had his bike thefted

    and tel robabdob to htfu

and as for nurse holiday ..... well there might be kids reading !

((NurseHolliday & cake)) I walked all the way to Philip House on Monday night to discover they were shut :(

  • I tried to pick up a cave-aged cheese from Whole Foods in Stoke Newington the other night but couldn't because it was shut. #whitewhine

  • Papa Del's was closed. Norths had to go down the road to a nicer pizzeria and pay twice as much (tho the beer was cheaper).

    Sucks to be you.

I think they're shut every Monday.

  • If I owned a shop in these areas I would be sitting in there waiting with a baseball bat in one hand, and a beer in the other.

  • Is this just going to descend into 'first world problems'?

  • Garnett - had to take massive detour home after sat in flat while looters ransacked sportsshop opposite, then Argos 2 doors down and then other shops, with complete impunity, for 2 hours, before setting fire to a bin opposite, all the time nobody answering 999 calls. Riot police attended and dispersed crowd before leaving them to continue looting for a bit before we had to leave the flat to pick up a friend who had been stopped at a cordon 1km down the road.

Walked up street with riot police outside some premises unable to stop looters going to shops literally across the road.

Got to cordon and was told nobody was allowed across it. So, 3 hours after looting began, and 1 hour after the looters had had 2 hours of unhindered looting, we as residents were the only people to be inconvenienced by the police, and had to leave the cordon, then walk round the back streets of the estate to loop round and come in via a side street (effective cordon, Mr Policeman, by the way).

Is this just going to descend into 'first world problems'?

Oh, and the shops were all closed so I couldn't get any Hake. And so much litter on the streets in the morning.

(Actually that's a lie, the clear up, from what it looked like at 10pm to what it looked like at 7am was impressive)

That said, when your flat is surrounded by 30 criminals all laughing and comparing spoils, with fires burning in the street, and no emergency services are visible or contactable for 2 hours, and people are looking up at you on the phone, you do start wondering how you would best defend the building...
I know the police were stretched, and the riot police were very brave, but to then not be able to employ some commonsense 3 hours too late, and enforce a cordon that did nothing to stop people getting on to the looted street, and instead just pushed lawful residents into the estate back streets at 10 pm, took the biscuit.

  • hippy, has to merge numerous riot-related threads into one.

And what are you going to do about the first few pages of the 'In the news' thread, eh?

  • Err.. leave them where they are.

  • Ive been affected by the number of seemingly normal people turning into rabid dictators on the news thread,
who do I sue for trauma?

  • I got glass in my shoe at my local post office on tuesday morning after a failed looting attempt and my house smelt of smoke on monday night

  • It's tough out there...
