That was my point to a certain extent. I mean, I'm sure they could get the police officers there (they may be there already. I've been to enough protests to know that cops can appear at any time from anywhere). But the cops are not interested in engaging this mob in the same way they are with other groups of people. Obviously for pragmatic reasons, but it makes you question the actions taken in some of our more recent interactions between groups of police officers and protesters.
I also hope Mare St, like the rest of London, is okay.
Apart from the odd psychotic thug in uniform, they're possibly being more standoffish than usual because they're disgruntled employees. Why would they bother going *beyond *the call of duty when their hours/wages have become less of an incentive to even go to the call of duty. It's a little cynical, but this will give them bargaining power during the next round of cutbacks.
