I rode a set of 90s mtb rims till they were like that. Got a pinch puncture when I was out on a group ride one day, a guy advised I should stick a bunch extra pressure in there to avoid another pinch flat.
Rim exploded and I'm lucky to still have eyes! impressive bits of rim separated from the rest of the wheel, and I was walking.
