Which freewheels are the ones that you can't get off again? Or is it just all cheap ones.
-
• #6006
dicta?
i think its worth spending a bit on a good quality freewheel.
-
• #6007
Yeah, that's the impression I got, I'm thinking of something like a midrange ACS one, White Industries are way too steep.

I got a sram £5 freewheel, totally not worth the bother. Stopped after less than 50miles and now I can't get it off.

Gonna go for the ACS crossfire, gets good reviews and whatnot.

After polo at Mitch on Saturday was putting my bike away and noticed some creaking coming from the back end of the bike. After a few minutes of shaking, dropping and listening I discovered both seat stays were cracked where they meet they meet the seat tube, one of them right the way through. Did some research into frame repairs and found others had had success with a 'stent' (terrible use of that word) which involves cutting the stay below the damage, and brazing in a solid bar of steel the same diameter as the stay, with a turned end that fits tight in the inside diameter. Then braze the ends back onto the seat tube. My old man is an engineer and has agreed to make the pieces for the repair but has no brazing equipment. I rang Bike Fix and they said they can assemble it for 30 quid.
Does this seem reasonable? Can anyone suggest a better place to get it done?
I don't want to get a new frame as it wil no doubt throw up loads of compatibility issues that I could do without.
Cheers

Ryan if you can wait 4 weeks.

I imagine he will charge more than £30, that seems like a bargain price.

Price is good, just wondered if it's the best place to take it. Then again it's only a bit of brazing isn't it
-
• #6021
I've never used them before but they've been recommended a fair few times on here (general forum not polo section)

bikefix are very good. have had a few frames brazed by them (eyelets, brake bosses, fillings, etc) and Matt's work has always been clean and straight.

thanks, I'll take it there then. Back at polo next week hopefully

No, a 70s Dawes. It's no longer a collectible!
Hve UTFS but cant find any mention of the NS Holy or other NS bikes. What are opinions on them? Ns Holy looks like the right choice but I wanted to see what people thought. Super high front end? Long Wheel base? Slack Geo?
