brake caliper overstressed?

Posted on
  • Cornered too quickly this morning and wheel went out from under me. Brake lever took the brunt of the impact and now the caliper won't 'open' again once the brake is pulled (pads are left rubbing against the rim). Both lever and caliper look fine (lever is scratched up), but just want to know if there's any mechanical damage/ failure to look out for, or is the brake just being funny because the spring/ cable was pulled too hard? Thanks~

  • Loosen the brake clamping bolt, re-centre, re-tighten. should be fine.

  • Thanks!

  • could have also bent the cable outer, it doesn't take a lot to bend them = cable has so much friction it will just clamp onto the wheel but not release.
solution = new cable + outer. or spend ages fiddling/unbending it with pliers
