Fake/Non branded Surly Cog??

Posted on
  • I got a quick question for those who have owned Surly fixed cogs:
Do Surly sell them without any branding on?
I only ask coz I got one off the **Bay **and its bereft of Surly tags (yet been advertised as surly)
    :/

  • I've got one of the ones with holes in it. It does have the Surly logo on it, but only very small.

  • I bought an Andel cog from velosolo which is supposed to be from the same factory as Surly.

    Boo
that's what my image search if coming up with =[

@Amygdala - does your cog have any branding of any kind?

  • i thought surly ones had holes?

  • yeah they do..So it looks like I've been sold a lie - time to consider haxing his 100% rating...

Not as far as I can tell, just a description of the number of teeth, BCD, and width.

It also has jelly bean shaped holes.

  • cheers dude, yeh sounds like the drilled holes are defo a Surly thing.

..shouldve known £13 was too good to be true for Surly cog n lockring..

  • Andel sprockets are pretty much the same as Surly, AFAIK. Not all have holes drilled - it depends on the size. I think they definintely have holes from 17 and up. Not sure about 16s. 15s and below are undrilled.

  • All City and Surly are brands owned by US distro QBP who source Taiwan made product and badge it with their brands.

Here is the All City track cog with the same cut-outs as the standard Andel cogs, which are also identical to Condors cogs which guess what, are also made by Andel.
