  • Um, yes, as long if jacking it up you have enough quill sticking into the steerer to make it safe (edit, you've got mimimum insertion plus 110mm to play with, should be plenty.)

    Obviously you can only go as long as the max reach at 0 degrees (unlike an ergo which can actually articulate forward). Another thing to perhaps query is that you can angle down the full 60 degrees as well as up? Otherwise if you want to try very short you could be stuck with a very high stem.

    If all that works, pythagoras says that if you get the 120mm stem you should be able to adjust the reach between 60mm and 120mm.

    Another question, just to check my understanding...

    If I get one of these fugly stems, can I set it up to give me a range of lengths?

    • ie if I slam it right down, and then angle it upwards the effective "length" of the stem will decrease. Right? Equally if I raise it and then angel it fwd, I'll get a longer stem. Right?


    I basically want a look ergo, to help find the right reach for different bikes, but without paying top dollar.
