i ride a reynolds 501 frame converted to a fixed gear with richey 26" wheels and find it durable enough to pull off drops, more so than my friend can with his 700c@s, plus he gets annoyed that i can barspin and his wheel wont pass his frame.
i think they can be pulled off on a smaller frame but its hit and miss i guess.
