  • £5 per hour, you can pedal me anywhere*

*usual rate = £100 per hour and ....

  • ha!

  • hi all

i have a few bikes at home i am more than willing to loan out free of charge to fellow bikers
give me a pm a few days before you arrive and we'll get something sorted.

also have a spare room if anyone is looking to crash for a few nights / weeks
again london hotels are pricey and you could use your extra cash to have a few more nights out in londons famous london
    PM ME

Too kind Dicki. Will PM you. I leave for Barce tomorrow and back 21st I think... but would be interested in a ride with cats if anything. I would need to follow someone. This opposite traffic freaks me out so riding solo would might be daunting.

    H!

  • Hi all, this is a late-comer, but I'm an avid cyclist from Sydney Australia, and I've always wanted to ride around London. Is there any chance that I'd be able to rent a bike off someone?

If anyone has a beat-up road/single-speed/fixed bike they'd be willing to rent me, I'd be happy to hand over a good security deposit or do whatever anyone would require, I just really want to ride around London.

I'm pretty tall - so anything with a seat tube 58 cm or bigger would be appreciated!

    Cheers,

    James

  • How long do you want it for, James?

  • Boris Bike?

  • Boris Bike?

Beat me to it! 'Hire' one for a quid and don't return it - they'll charge you £300. When you're ready to go home call Boris and tell him about your 'mistake' and see if he'll split the difference, if not sell it on ebay/gumtree lol

  • Run behind cars and use your imagination.

  • Buy some Rollerblades.

  • Hey all, Jason here. I live in Chicago, USA where I work for a bicycle advocacy organization as our education and outreach specialist. I'll be coming to London from Sept 3-6 and was hoping to be able to borrow or rent a bike while in town. I ride a 58cm and would prefer gears or single speed. (My usual ride is a Long Haul Trucker). Would love to just check out as much of London from atop a bike as possible. Might want to do a day-ride in the country if that's at all possible as well, but I'll see. If entrusted with your ride I promise to baby it in traffic, lock it up proper and bring it inside at night!

Chicago is hosting the 2012 Cycle Messenger World Championships and I've got lots of friends and acquaintances in the messenger and general bike scene here, so if you're planning to come my way in 2012, I'd be more than happy to return the favor with hook ups and places to stay for you and all your friends!I'll be staying in the Owgan Close area if that helps. Let me know y'all and thanks in advance!

  • boris bike

  • If by Boris Bike you mean the Barclays bike share system, yeah, I'm keeping that as a back up plan and actually anticipate using it at some point just to check out from a professional perspective. Chicago has only just launched their first bike sharing system but there are a pitifully small number of stations, rendering it virtually unusable for any practical purposes. So to that end I'm excited to check out a system that is seemingly much more complete.

But also being someone who's become sort of accustomed to living on my bike in an urban setting, and knowing what I like in a bike (as I'm sure we all do here) I was hoping to find something a little more my speed and something that I could take anywhere and have easier access to while I'm there. But beyond the benefits afforded to myself by borrowing a bike for the stay, I'd also like the opportunity to interact with the London cycling community in some way if at all possible, rather than just the Barclays kiosks.

  • I'm sure there's some couriers that would love an exchange - bike/accom for Chicago ya know.

You are welcome to use my Condor. It's 55cm but the seat-tube junction is failing, ie. if you're a bit heavy it will snap and kill you.

  • Thanks for the offer hippy, I'll def keep it in mind. I'll probably keep my eye out for something a little more my size and a little less deadly. But if it comes to that...

  • hi ,
i can loan you a bike have a few at home
fixed single speed racer or mtb
pm me and we can arrange something

  • If you do want to rent a Borris Bike on your credit card, note that the card needs to be chip&pin enabled, which is often not supported on US credir cards.

  • I've got a Dawes Galaxy, about your size, that you could have for three or four days. If none of dicki's suit.

  • If all else fails: http://www.onyourbike.com/stylesheet.asp?file=6_1_1_about_our_cycle_hire

Not cheap, but the bikes will be nicer to ride than the hire scheme bikes and significantly better looked after, if my experience of the hire bikes is anything to go by.

    +1

I have hired from them before and the bike was good, as was their service.

  • Wow, fantastic. Thanks for the tips on the cc and On Your Bike!

Dicki and Fruitbat, I'll follow up with you on PMs. Thanks again, you've revitalized my belief that bikes make people better humans.

  • I just had some friends over from the US, and as mentioned previously their credit cards wouldn't work. So Boris Bike isn't an option :(

  • Yeah, that's a serious flaw,in either Boris Bike or American Credit Cards.
