  • i am treated well if i wear my forum cap in blb (like a clueless hipster cunt if im not wearing it)
Tokyo fixed i find they are very nice and helpful in there even sans cap

  • I've been to Brick Lane Bikes and they were absolutely lovely and helpful both times actually.

Let's face it, you're fitter than me.

  • So they're rude if you're not skinny? That makes me feel Norwegian. I've been to BLB and they were helpful but a bit vague and wouldn't haggle. They also didn't have any Thai paedo stickers, all the rage this season - mark my words.

  • Solo off. Come to the London Open Polo Tournament this weekend, Saturday and Sunday at Hackney Downs. You'll meet plenty of cyclists there.

Or go to the Rapha Sale and spend your rent money like a true London cyclist.

  • I have refused to go to BLB ever since they gave me that funny look when I said I wanted to buy a pair of cross top levers than just 1. I have no shame in needing 2 brakes.

Tokyo Fixed, I think they might shut their doors when they see me going next time, I tend to talk a lot and buy very little... but those guys are nice.

  • where you found in the city?
    what are the best shops?
there are some famous frame builder in london?
    the best repair shop?

    thanks!!
can you ride a fixed bike London without a helmet and no brakes?

    All over the place

    Brixton Cycles

Not many framebuilders left here. Most assemble bikes on frames from Taiwan. Get a Yorkshire bike - Bob Jackson, Woodrup or Feather ;-)

Repairs? Go to Brixton. But get your wheels built elsewhere IME.

Yes, I ride without a h*lm*t most of the time. Ice is one time I stick a lid on, because it's one of the few occasions it'll do any good. I have two brakes on my fixed. If you ride without brakes, it's illegal but you're unlikely to be stopped (pun intended).

  • You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to BringMeMyFix again.

    .

  • Best way to meet other fixed riders is to go to the corner of Gray's Inn Road and Theobalds Road, get a pint of Staropramen from the Yorkshire Gray and stand outside and yell 'Do a skid!' at all the single-gear riders who come by (there will be loads). Many will stop, come over and introduce themselves and ask if you would like to go for a drink at 'Southies' or 'Westies' or other navigationally themed pubs. Say yes and have a blast.

If any of them invite you to go cycling in a place called 'The Surrey Hills' tell them to fuck off.

  • ^hey! i've ridden with you on a ride that included both Surrey and hills, although not the Surrey Hills!

  • I've been to Brick Lane Bikes and they were absolutely lovely and helpful both times actually.

Me too...in fact way nicer than Tokyo Fixed who seemed way snootier to me!

  • No, it's not illegal.

er...yes it is....must have two brakes ( fixed rear wheel can count as one...)...surely you know this?

  • I know someone who used to ride a singlespeed without any brake until he nearly got run over by a lorry. Should have reported him to save his ass.

    Oak Cycles....http://www.oakcycles.com/
    Slack Cycles... http://www.slackcycling.com/

    enjoy your time over here!

  • Shops are for emergencies.

This regulation also has a general exemption for pedal cycles (but not EAPCs) brought into UK by a foreign visitor for their own temporary use.** Nothing in these regulations applies** to such a 'temporarily imported' cycle, provided that it has one effective brake as required by the Convention on Road Traffic described below

    So, fuck you, I'm forrun!

  • Shops are for emergencies.
    This!!!

  • So, fuck you, I'm forrun!

haha!...fair play....(bloody forruners, comin over ere ridin brakless....)

    ^racist

    True. I apologise sort of.

  • Brakes are for emergencies too. Ask Multigoove - he carries one in his bag in case of insurance emergencies after he crashed.

i'm imagining a cop gets to the scene quickly and he has to do something like this (at 0:48)

  • Let's face it, you're fitter than me.

All jokes aside, being a girl, fit or not doesn't seem to make much difference. By and large I've generally felt at best patronised and talked down to and at worst totally ignored in most bike shops.

BLB and 14BikeCo have been notable exceptions!

  • In BLB I was mainly ignored.
And then offered a second hand Campagnolo headset for £95.

  • what are the best shops? Brixton Cycles, BLB
