I cant stress how poor this bike was, it cost me £40 with downtube shifters, the pedals snapped off after a year and a half, but it was only used for short (~10 minute) rides around uni.
Im looking now for something for a commute into London, so fairly flat. I went to look at an Allez in my lbs but I didnt like the thumb shifters, as I quite enjoy riding on the drops.
Also, when I commute I dont really take much with me except some clothes so I dont need to worry about panniers or carrying heavy loads, and ill be commuting between home and work which has an underground storage so carrying locks around isnt much of an issue.
