what good would that do? dont you think its possible active bike thieves are already using this forum? would explain why a few bikes have been stolen at events. the point of it being public is to spread the work of your stolen bike, a lot of people who dont ride fixed/ss have got to this thread by searching the internet and asked for our help finding their bike, also what if some one found your bike and was trying to find its owner?

When the FUCK is this thread going to be made private FFS?!
I think that this thread does far more good being public than private. I am sure that some tealeaves look at it but for the most part it is much more useful that anyone who goes into the general section sees it, reads it then keeps there eyes peeled. There have been lots of success stories on here including the recovery of my Condor before christmas thanks soley to a forumenger seeing my plea (thanks Stu....whoever you are) and the thread has become more effective since it got dragged out of Bikes and Bits a month or 2 back. I know you are still hurting from your specialised but it is still better to make stolen stuff public as the more people searching around town the better i think.
Also if you decide to post at 2.30 in the morning folks might take you more seriously if you don't swear in capital letters.

So, I found my Brooks on gumtree, two days after losing it. http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/variety-of-new-brooks-saddles/84111798. orinbristow's saddle is also in the pictures... Set up a sting with the bike police, but the thief bailed claiming to have sold all the saddles. So near...

I've always been curious: what happens when you find your saddle? Do you just say "hey gimme back my saddle" or do you have to call the police there?
Call the cops and tell them you've spotted the person selling stolen goods. The bike police team have people down at Brick Lane market every week.
Apparently the hardest part is matching stolen good to owners, as few people report their bike parts stolen (e.g. saddles) as they're generally difficult to distinguish from others anyway. The general lessons seem to be:
- don't use quick release
- don't park your bike in a quieter part of Dalston
- use a meaty lock around everything of value on your bike (not just an extension cable)
- personalise your gear - radiotag it.
- report your gear stolen. This is a pain, takes ages (took an hour and a half of my Saturday morning) but at least it means the statistics get through to whoever is responsible for assigning policing budgets in the future - bike theft sucks!
I'm going to take a soldering iron to my new Brooks. I think I'll brand in either a hot-dog bun or some large hairy balls on the saddle surface. Maybe my name too...
- don't use quick release

mmm, popular weekend for it. my brown brooks (chopped pro) with 'no pasaran' embossed on it. pinched from under 199 bishopsgate...
The thing that pisses me off most is that they took the top part of my dura ace seat post and left the rest!

Afternoon all - been a while. Unfortunately my Pista has just been stolen from outside my house. It's mint green, with Deda track drops and black pretty much everything else. Very distinctive - has a Selle Italia Turbo saddle that is attached via a link of chain covered in rubber - to stop it getting stolen :(. Please keep an eye out and let me know if you see it - was stolen in Hammersmith.

Sorry having read that I need to be more specific - it's a green Condor Pista, few years old now with the decals that have 'London' down the seat tube. Sure there's a picture of it somewhere on the forum. Has a black deep v on the back, DT Swiss on the front black hubs - back one has one of Wayne's WAC stickers on it. Brand new silver chain, brand new Fizik black bar tape. Fuck I know every inch of that bike & it's in perfect order, just having been serviced. Very unique and surely hard to sell w/o pulling it completely to bits. Sick to my stomach :(

It sucks that my first post on LFGSS will be to report my bike being Stolen from Broadway market last Tues 19th. I've been browsing the posts here and will keep an eye out for any of these models as I hunt for mine.
Its a Koga Miyata Gents Racer in a light forest green with chrome drop outs, Brooks Team Pro Saddle honey brown with copper rails, brushed aluminum deep v rear wheel. Full Shimano 600 arabesque components but with weimann break leavers. I didn't record the serials unfortunately something I guess I will have to start doing now.

Shit sorry to hear that. Thats gorgeous. Will keep my eyes peeled as it is around my manor.
I know you don't want to hear it now but to anyone else please don't lock your bike up on Broadway Market unless you double lock it and can keep an eye on it because the thieves seem to be some of the fastest and most well tooled up in London.

My white vintage BSA single speed racer got nicked from our hallway in London Fields by some scally as my housemate was putting out the bins last night : (
It had a black globe rear wheel and an old chrome steel 27 1 1/4 up front.
Any sightings give me a shout.
Cheers
