  • Repost? Bare soz if true.

Anybody got the scoop on these?

  • Seems like it could be a good idea.

Whilst on the subject of halo has anyone used a disk hub cog with their combat hub?

  • Available in 48h flavour too! Hmmm...

  • bit fishey considering

Already renowned as offering some of the finest Track hubs,

    is complete bullshit.

but a good idea in theory, basically like a cassette freehub with a surly fixxer but all in one.

what is the o.l.d. of this? it may be mtb size (135mm) rendering it useless (120mm) for your track frame unless it has loadsa spacerz

  • Looks like a good idea. Could also run two (or three if room?) cogs on there for those that want to change gearing, and have long track ends.
    Main benefit being adjustable chainline.

Need to make sure wide base singlespeed cogs were used though as the thinner ones may be dodgy for fixie skidder types as they always left quite a mark on freehubs when I used thin cogs.

    120mm according to the website

yep, and the splined freehub body really suffered if it was aluminium.

The Hal Fix-G hub features a fixed HG spline machined as part of the alloy main hub body
    Doh!

I think it will last five minutes with a narrow (standard BMX) sprocket and a hoxton skidder.

Purely with all the reciprocating forces it will receive, not long before both sides of the splines are worn so bad the cog bites through and slips round (or strips/pushes off the lockring)
In any case, re-inventing the wheel again, nothing wrong with standard track hubs and cogs, HTFU

  • Agree, alu is not a good material but I still like the idea of being able to adjust chainline by what looks like getting on for 1cm.

  • Old thread I know but has anyone got one of these? Is it possible to get a 52mm chainline with one? Can't find any info online to confirm

  • Anyone got a hot scoop on these?
Ive seen the footdown has a positive review of them and a couple of other sites - but there is not much information on them.

I am interested as my current set up keeps slipping, and this does seem like a clever solution and should save on hassle.

  • Shit, someone must have tried these out by now?!

  • Probably not, as the general consensus was that it wasn't a great design and didn't seem to have any real benefit over existing systems.

In which case why would anyone have spent ~£70 plus spokes to try it out?

  • I just found this thread, if anyone was looking for a review from a 'fixie skidder' I'm your man, I've been running a halo fix g hub for 5 months now and I can say that it's been the BEST hub I've ever had, you can space the cogs easily with the spacing kit that's comes with the hub, not to mention how easy and quick changing over cogs which helped me especially when I rode the coast to coast. As for wear and bite marks on the spline I'd have to say is minimal, the idea is that you use a thicker cog such as a gusset double six or the halo fat foot cogs. I live and ride Newcastle (brakeless) and it's served very well in terms if durability on the climbs and decents into heavy traffic or emergency stops. I've serviced the hub every month and as long as you pack the spline with Teflon grease also tightening up the lockring will ensure no play and reduced wear between the cog and spline.

  • Adjusted my chain line so its exactly .5 of a mm difference. Never had a straighter chain line before. I love this HUB I need to source .5mm spacer come on HALO.
    Quick cog changes
    Hub is smooth
    Truly revolutionary.

Just setup the double Fix G hub. Absolutely love it. Downside is parts availability. They have custom designed lockings and washers and 5mm and 1mm spacers which aren't available ANYWHERE to buy. I contacted Halo but am yet to get a response.

So great idea extremely well executed and I'm never going back to a chain whip UNLESS I can't get spares without buying a New Hub each time. :(

  • Come on Halo start selling the spare lockings and washers otherwise this revolutionary idea is absolutely useless.

I haven't damaged/worn mine yet but if I do its game OVER for that entire setup.

  • Much respect to @dicki who helped me replace my old hub with the new hub. It rides great.

  • @arup taught you well.

  • I use a light amount of lithium grease on the Spline and it works excellent. easy removal of cogs/sprockets. No more overtightened/threads to worry about. Feels absolutely rock solid.

  • does anyone know anywhere in london that sells these cogs and washers?
