New fixie pedals

Posted on
  • I want to get some new pedals as my ones keep coming unclipped at the wrong time.

    I`m running cheapish shimanos, pd~m520's.

Trying to decide wether to get time atacs or the crank bros eggbeaters with the plastic type shell. Both are about £45 from cycle surgery.

Or should i just get cleats with the wider bar bit at the back for half the price?

    Cheers.

    Oh, not interested in straps.

  • Your cleats are worn. Get new ones.

  • they aren`t and i have adjusted the tension in the pedals but they do constantly clip out when slowing down

  • There are two different types of shimano spd cleat single or multi realease. You need the single.

  • I bought the black plastick surrounded Eggbeater style ones from crankbrothers, they were recently on sale. Very happy with them so far.

    release

Which brings us full circle to my original post.

My three options are: time atacs, crank bros egg beater types or the cleats with the wider bottom bar bit to use on my shimanos.

So my question again, which would give the most locked in grip when slowing down so they don`t pop out at the wrong time?

  • time atac pedals.

    that is all.

  • Single release cleats.

  • shimano sh51

  • time atac pedals.

    that is all.

  • pfffft!

  • Have a look at the ATAC thread - they are highly thought of for riding fixed. I've ridden both SPDs and ATACs and have gone back to SPDs but only because I've just been riding them too long to get adjusted to ATACs.

you don't want locked in, you want a bit of float to avoid accidental unclipping.

  • There is plenty of float with SPDs.

I couldn't comment on ATACs as I haven't ridden them.

  • you have a choice
    time atacs
    or
    spd with single release cleats

    up to you now

  • this has been pretty much no help at all except to point out my original options

  • buy the ATACs

the aliums, not the expensive ones.

    not the crank brothers.

you are making it hard for yourself there is alot of advice on this thread. not everyone has the ssame opinion, do you understand this?

I think pedals are quite a personal thing, if the only issue you have is unclipping, then change the cleats. If you have other issues then head people advice, though it is as i say all subjective.

They're both good options, they both do what you want, and they're both recommended by various people.

Pick which one you like best and move on...

    buy the fucking atacs.

    sticky date pudding?

  • I got the time ones and they are so much better after a quick pedal than the shimanos were so I seriously doubt getting the other cleats for them would have made as much difference as the times.

You have to wrestle them out a bit to detach and they've definitely added some weight to my bike (I got the alium ones as I'm a pikey) but I'm starting to wonder why I was on the old ones for so long now, stoked.
