Which brings us full circle to my original post.

My three options are: time atacs, crank bros egg beater types or the cleats with the wider bottom bar bit to use on my shimanos.

So my question again, which would give the most locked in grip when slowing down so they don`t pop out at the wrong time?

you don't want locked in, you want a bit of float to avoid accidental unclipping.
