After six months the red Hammerite wasn't looking so good... wire brush and a couple cans of clear lacquer.

I was looking for Pompetamine, which I ended up paying £169.99 for as there were none on ebay. To be honest I think that's still a good price for what it is and I've saved a stack of money on other bits since so not feeling to bad about the whole situation now. This is what I have so far. (+ Halo Aerowarrior rims not pictured)

Ha ha, not at all. Fair play to you. I'm glad we wern't competing for the same frame, you might not have got such a bargain.

Just a couple of the bigger cans from Halfords. It's taken fine, but the time to ask will be six months down the line. However, we only play polo indoors in Cambridge anyway so it should be ok even if I've missed a bit.

ah, i don't know what to do. Im just about to depart for toronto, and the winter could really mess it up if it turns out to be a waste of time...might see about a clear powdercoat...

if you're that worried, put some bolt on the rack mount.

I did my BMX with Halfords Laquer and six months on it's not looking great. Scratched all over and there's rust starting to apear underneath, even in places where there's no scratches. Had my Dawes done in clear powder coat and even though I didn't have it long before I sold it, it was noticably much much more durable. That's the route I've gone for with my Pompetamine and I'll probably get the BMX done too when I can be bothered to strip it down.

At the rate that polo players' Pompinos are dying, I think my frame will sooner crack/bend than rust... and we play indoors 90% of the time.

i spoke with chas roberts about this and he advised against raw + clear coat, but said that a "clear powdercoat" finish would be more durable, but still not as good as a coloured paint.

(he has a raw clear coated 953 (stainless) frame in his shop that is truly amazing).

Forgive me if I'm wrong but as 953 is stainless shouldn't it be fine without any finish whastsoever?

I stripped my Pompino when the original finish started to look tatty (which happened surprisingly quickly) and applied a very thin layer of linseed oil. Three/four weeks later it seems to be holding up well - and its used as my daily commuter so it see's all weather and is stored outdoors as well (admittedly under cover)

Some stainless steels are prone to obtrusive finger marks, so a clear coat seems like a good idea; finger prints wipe off a polymer coating with a damp cloth, whereas more aggressive treatment is needed for bare metal.

Anyone running avid shorty (4s or similar) on their pomp and if so what pads do you use / recommend?

Pompetamine frame and P2 fork are back from the powder coaters.

Seen a Brooklyn Gangsta on here with real battered neon paint and it looked really good so i thought i'd go for something similar. So the clear coat is just to protect the frame. I'll be giving it a couple of coats of white and then some neon green. From previous experience with rattle cans, the patina shouldn't take to long to appear.

To be fair, the quality of the paint on my pomp, I'm getting that "patina" myself ;) Obviously, without the bonus of the clear coat protection...

Yeh it looks lovely, know what I'll be going for when mine gets all scratched up. Which will be in about a month seeing my current form.

I'm really loving the pompetamine, not a as fast as the langster it replaced, probably due to the bigger tyres I've put on. It feels some much more stable and comfortable for it though. Thinking about changing the coaster brake for a SS with another disc brake. The hassle of building another wheel is putting me off though.
