At times like this I'm reminded of quite how different peoples motivations and drivers can be from each other. Wow.

Met a guy who self amputated his right thumb and little finger. For years he was happy with it and defended his desicion to remove them furiously to everyone, then one day decided he made a bad choice (I guess the novelty wore off). His hand looked like somthing out of alien

Awesome, but I hate wearing anything other than wood.

I know what you mean, glass and stone for me.
But have brought roses plugs from the seller, and it's nice to have "fancy" plugs to wear out. -

there is an idea that as a society we are becoming more and more domesticated and useless and obsessed with vanity with each generation. as life becomes easier for us all (in the west) as society evolves on a social and technological level. if you know what i mean.
are there human beings out there who actually amputate fingers for the sake of vanity and fashion ? have tattoos and peircings become so mainstream ?
-
• #309
No, there isn't people out there who do amputate for vanity and fashion, it's very very very rare someone wants to.
But yes, piercings and tattoos have become a LOT more mainstream than it was 8 years ago, even surgical mods are sadly becoming more mainstream, with hacks doing it.

TBH body mods (piercing at least) have been more in the mainstream for a lot longer than 8 years. Didn't things seam to take a huge leap forward back in the very early 90's with the jim rose sideshow, and what i would consider the one of the biggest influences in bringing 'piercing to the mainstream....mike pattons eyebrow ring. Since then its just been a competition to some to just go one louder and find the next kool thing.

its part of the reason I left the modification industry. Things were getting out of hand and untrained people were doing things way way to extreme to others that were causing major issues. Its still going on, people are getting un rectifiable mods done badly - I didnt want to be part of that, even though I was was doing it correctly and safely - there was too much hassle and stigma attached to the industry

I learnt the hard way...i had my 1st non ear piercing done in a tattooists in windsor...as the needle went into my nipple he said 'oops' :/
after that I only used warren at wildcat? in brighton..never a problem.

Aye, I just discovered someone who did a labret scalpel for £50, I daren't think where he got his tools from or if he auto-calved it. I've just seen the aftermath, looks like it was prolasped asshole. Mine didn't look like that whilst healing.

I went to that studio, didn't really give me a "clean and sterile feel" and I worry that they don't even stock jewellery to 1" (25mm)
And the studio down the road wasn't much better! -

I went to the piercer with the best rep I'd heard. Really good guy's, the piercer later left but I have his phone number so I can get him to do the next one. I don't really trust my local one yet, not seen anything she's done

I don't know the names of the road, it was on the same road where you can get those werid and wonderful sweets I think, or nearby.

My favourite piercers are too far away :( Markus at Holier than thou, Manchester and Quentin at Kalima, Worthing.
The area I'm moving to are hacks. I'm pretty sure I have more knowledge than the ones in this town!
