depart paddington, change at exeter
-
• #4
excellent, will do that ride next week (to exeter), I can find my way to Plymouth, know the area well.
first legs to exeter, then second to plymouth.
-
• #5
My parents live just north of Dartmoor but (I'm shamed to say) I've never ridden right across it. Are you planning to go over the moor?
-
• #6
dartmoor is beautiful. some hills of note too.
-
• #7
going to exeter is a little over optimstic come to think of it, pretty stupid as it's nearly 200 miles.
will stop halfway at Bristol instead then ride to Plymouth, about 120-130 miles each day.
-
• #8
found this though, look good;
-
• #9
I'd stop off in Frome, Glastonbury, or one of the nice villages.
-
• #10
good mention miro, I will make a note of that, going to find if there's a campsite nearby.

Did plan on using this to ride back from the IOW Randonee, but bailed about 20 miles in due to crushing headwind.

[/ame]You might want to edit the last 20 miles or so as I got pretty lazy, but the route out of Portsmouth was a winner, and avoided a lot of shit roads.

Spybot, I love the look of that route, it, and will bookmark it for future reference, but...
it's Plymouth I'm talking about, with a y.
-
• #13
oops. Still half asleep. Go to portsmouth anyway.
-
• #14
Plymouth or Portsmouth?
Take your pick, both are shitholes.
-
• #15
They are, but my relative lived there, the only relative that doesn't have fucking 'Scoble' as his last name.
-
• #16
No criticism of your plan intended, Ed. There's some beautiful countryside to explore between London and both Plymouth and Portsmouth.
-
• #17
exactly, plymouth is just the finish line to get the train back to London, and I get to see my relative I hasn't seen in years.
-
• #18
Coincidentally i am also cycling between Plymouth and London this weekend, however am going the opposite direction. #coolstorybro
-
• #19
Sound like we might have to DAS to each other then.
-
• #20
There's a new bike trail along the Tamar valley, so it might be worth going across Dartmoor to Tavistock and then down the river to Plymouth.
-
• #21
Tavistock is lovely, where I went to school... A38 is a bit interesting though...
-
• #22
I'd stop off in Frome, Glastonbury, or one of the nice villages.
exactly 100 miles from London, good going.
now to plan from Frome to Plymouth.
-
• #23
Right, think I got it sorted.
London to Frome - Frome to Plymouth.
a little over a century;

Now, I very much like to have a Garmin...

Garmins are for cunts. Learn to read a map and follow your nose, it's a skill that'll benefit you in life.

You've left them private Ed
I can't stand not doing a century or two after a week, decided to go to Plymouth taking two days to get there on a fixie skidder with enough brake to halt Iain, camp halfway of course.
know any good route?
