With the price of motoring, I think EVERYONE will always just get whats cheapest. I dont think anyone really cares if the companies any good at paying out, because most people avoid claiming anyway.
Just like every oil company is evil, but you still have to buy something.

I've never made an insurance claim, but imagine it is always a pain in the arse. Fair play for having the presence of mind to keep records and keep nagging though.
I would reserve underlined, bold, italic letters for the *FUCKING UNINSURED DRIVER WHO HIT YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE*, though.

Sorry to hear this love! My accident was pretty much the same and I just gave up. Glad a cheque will finally be on it's way soon though.

Any lawyer will extract the fee from the insurance company. Well, who ever loses has to pay. And it sounds like the driver is definetly going to lose.

Long story short (see Near Misses thread for longer story). I got hit in FEBRUARY, driver of car is uninsured, case goes to Motors Insurance Bureau, takes 1 month for them to work out driver uninsured as the car was insured to a male (I was hit by a female), case goes to direct line in MARCH who since have tried very hard to avoid paying me out. tricks include:
-claiming they had not received the case from MIB or any of the reports I produced (including a bike report from a local bike shop), SEVERAL times, when I have and MIB have sent the info several times.
-saying their system was down which is why they had not done anything without my prompt, SEVERAL times.
-calling me and reminding me that the call was recorded then trying to catch me out, asking me question about what happened. Again several times now.
-After calling them AT LEAST once a week to see how they are moving forward SINCE MARCH...5 MONTHS, they send me a cheque with my name spelt wrong. The case handler knows my voice so well he knows when I call and doesnt even bother doing the security questions anymore.
So 5 months on and I am still waiting for a cheque which they have agreed to pay, which they said it would be with me by the weekend just gone.
Now I know I dont have much power in the situation but I jsut wanted to share this with you in case you're in the market to buy insurance to seriously consider whether you want to buy from low lifes like direct line who in my experience do a complete dis-service to claimants and/or cyclists (Another excuse I have heard is that because I'm a cyclist, I, not them or the uninsured driver am making the case more difficult to process). If you cannot tell by my overuse of capitals, its very frustrating.
FUCK DIRECT LINE.
