These things can be a nightmare to solve. Almost any niose on the drivechain can feel like its the BB when riding. I had a periodic clunk on the commuter a couple weeks back. That turned out to be a loosened non-drivesid crankarm (external bearing set-up).
Start removing, greasing and reinstalling bits. Definitly pull the cassette off and check the free hub for wear, and laterall movement.
