That doesn't sound quite right.

Ha ha.
What with though? If I zip tie it up I'll have trouble getting it back on if I need to use it.

toe strap.
my pump is a cheap £4 one, those old fashion style one made of plastic, I use toe strap to tie them onto the rack.

I don't think I'll be able to fit that all in my jersey some how.
Cycling Jersey? I'm always surprised at how much I can fit into the stretchy pockets on the back. Why not just put on your jersey and see how much kit you can stuff into it?
Also, don't underestimate cargo shorts over cycling shorts.

If it's going to rain, i'm definitely taking a bag with dry clothes for the other end. Last time it rained, I only had my wet clothes and it was awful.

Awesome idea mate. I'll try that tonight. If I can get the pump on my bike I can then just have rain jacket/food and leg + arm warmers in my jersey. Which will at a push be doable.

Yeah I'll try that tonight mate. As you start to cram loads of stuff in they do get uncomfortable though.
I'll be wearing over shorts anyway as I didn't want to sit on the train just in lycra!

Releasable cable ties FTW.

+1I almost died of hyperthermia the last time i was caught out in wet clothes at the other end(was a L2B not a DD).
I hate being cold. Or wet. And i hate the wind and hills. But other than that - this should be awesome!

One of the pluses of a bit of rain. I bet there'll be lots of spaces on lots of busses to take ya home, soo that's not a worry.

Should I take a lock?

I'm doing this regardless of the weather. I promised myself I would as a recovery target so I'm certainly not backing out due to a bit of drizzle. Bringing my flouro nodder waterproof jacket though, and if it really looks horrid I might consider waterproof boots (still riding flats).
I'll be bringing a pannier bag with at least enough food (flapjacks and possibly homemade jerky) and tools in it, waterproof jacket and possibly a spare top. How many opportunities are there to refill with water along the way? I guess this won't matter too much if it's going to be cool.
I'm going to be bringing a big badboy light with sufficient batteries. Magicshine and spare pack should give me 900 lumens for 6 hours, so if anyone wants to follow at a more sedate 14mph or so I'm your man.

Getting excited now. Carradice lowsaddle doobrey - check. Bagman Q/R sport - check. Pump strapped to frame with toe-straps (great idea Eds). Check. 2 x Cateye 530 - check. Spare mobile battery - en route via Ebay, hopefully. Boil-in-the-bag plastics - check.
Now I just need to prevent myself from trying to cram half the kitchen and wardbrobe into the Carradice.
Rain - bring it on!! (for 5 mins only, please).

Hobo, I'm taking mine with me. Just not decided whether it's the mini-fahg or the 'regular' D-lock.

I went into condor yesterday to get a carradice barley but they only had the green and honey ones which will look ridiculous on my bike. Might go down the frame bag route instead.
Does anyone have and recommendation for overshoes?

personally we're not in London, so even a small cable lock should be enough, although this is my first DD run, I don't know if thieves is a problem in the countryside, especially in the middle of the night.
the question you'll ask yourself is this - how often are you going to leave your bike?

^ Cows and sheep are renowned for thieving bikes. The De Bevoir gang are small time in comparison.

You shouldn't really need a lock at all. All my eating will be done on the bike or next to it, generally you'll be round a lot of other people, with bikes who have no way of stealing yours.
I really wouldn't bother It's just extra weight.
On the conversation of weight I'm really going to try and reduce my kit down. I've got the rack bag if I need it but would rather stick to my small saddle bag and jersey (fingers crossed)
I might even resort to wearing full length bibs so I don't have to carry leg warmers.

spenceey, I am known for carrying all manner of things "just in case" when it comes to cycling. Maybe I should have bought a smaller Carradice instead sigh.

I trust the accuweather forecast above most others, and it looks like it will be dry all night along the route with a low of 12deg around 4am. Possible showers late morning in Dunwich.
Just make sure you get to the pub early :)

I have some spare waterproof trousers if anyone wants them (men's size massive) (free though)
just strap your pocket rocket to the top tube.
