I've just swapped out a pair of American Classic hubs on a pair of road wheels because I wasn't happy with the quality of the bearings, i.e. they are too small and it got to the point where I was replacing them too often. I've heard of other people having similar issues with the hubs.

Looking at wheelsets around £300 - £400, and kept noticing these.

Very little on the forum about them, anyone ride 'em / know much about 'em?

They used to have problems with their bearings, basically due to them using very small bearings that couldn't cope with the stresses put on them from normal usage, but they are meant to have sorted that now.

Yeah that's all I could find on here, from '08... anyone got current experience?

You could probably get some quality handbuilts built as light and cheaper than them. And they are fug.

I've been looking at these for a while...really tempted to buy the road equiv for my racer.

Just a thought... Wheelsmith.co.uk will do IRD 30mm rims, DB spokes on Royce hubs for around £500.

I ride these... Not sure i'd pay full whack for them (managed to get them off a friend for £150) but they are certainly exceptionally light and stiff... Infact, just put a pair of GP4000s on them and they feel lush this morning....
Hi all,
First time poster, etc.
Was surfing the web and saw American Classic hubs. Thought to ask as I've gathered you foul lot might be in the know.
So has anyone here tried American Classic hubs? I've tried to look for reviews, but haven't been able to come to any conclusion. Light they are, yes, but wouldn't want to find out if they are fragile the hard way.
Thank you.
