String choice is a lot more important for bass I think. Not really the brand but correct gauge. Get it wrong and you'll be all floppy and sustainless.
Or just get flat wounds and pretend you're james jamerson. Also it's a lot more expensive if you get it wrong and need a new set. Have fancied playing with some tomastik flat wounds but at £50 a set nothing can be that good.
