i haz googled and i see they iz coated.
never got on with coated strings myself. athough they do retain something a lot longer, i always felt they lacked something else right from start. plus they feel funny.
my bass player has them on his squier jazz though. that feels and sounds pretty cool. but then, i like flatwounds on a bass so that would make sense.

I saw someone else referring to Black Diamonds the other day, another mate was going on about Pyramids... Then we get onto the whole flatwound debate etc... snore

That’s pretty high cotton whoever you are
You break one you change one, that’s as good as it gets
You can play all year long on two or three setsI'm assuming he refers to their acoustic ones.
For steel acoustic strings you must have Thomastik Infelds otherwise you are not doing it properly

^ Gear head... I'm with dooks, any old crap string will do me... It's all about the fingers, baby...
-
• #1408
Depends how much fingerpicking acoustic you play I suppose.
For electric and pick work I couldn't care less, but that's not proper guitar playing
-
• #1409
aha. okay, i mostly flat pick and finger pick but with brass finger and plastic thumb picks. what then? i've just always gone for martin "reds". 12-? almost never break one. i just change then when they're getting really dull about once every six months.

I think with lots of finger contact, strings go very dull quickly. The reason I exclusively use(d) Thomastiks is because they sound the same after a few hours/days/weeks as they do when you first put them on. Which was essential for recording. I found too many strings needed to be "played in" otherwise they would be overly bright then go overly dull in a short time (like over the course of a recording session)
I use the spectrum bronze, they are not coated.
What are those coated strings? tried them yonks ago, what a load of shit!

^ Fucking musos...
- Plug cheap electric guitar into very loud amplifier...
- Crank amplifier up to maximum volume...
- Add fuzztone...
- Make as loud and unholy a noise as subhumanly possible...
- Watch as your audience's ears bleed before you...
- Repeat 'til only Ed Scoble remains...

Interesting stuff (the string discussion, not the cock-measuring).
I've picked up Black Diamond standard strings on Ebay but will see if I can pick up a set of the coated ones too, I've never used coated strings before and I suspect they'll look hella cool, however they sound. Kind of cool to be playing on strings namechecked in so many old songs.

Wunjo or Hanks on Denmark street is a good starting point.

my next muso purchase i going to be a banjo pickup. a cheap one preferably. anybody know anything about the dark ark of amplifying the frying pan, please feel free to offer up advice.

String choice is a lot more important for bass I think. Not really the brand but correct gauge. Get it wrong and you'll be all floppy and sustainless.
Or just get flat wounds and pretend you're james jamerson. Also it's a lot more expensive if you get it wrong and need a new set. Have fancied playing with some tomastik flat wounds but at £50 a set nothing can be that good.

just boil yer old ones in hot water for ten mins. kapow, bright fresh new sounding strings for nowt.

I am loving this new guitar, the pick ups sound pretty good for what I'm doing and the coil tap works pretty well too, nice fast neck... 100% thumbs up for high octane rock'n'roll/aural blitzkrieg type stuff... Love it!

I love that Epiphone, they really do make some cracking good guitars! Very tempted by this, a Jack Casady bass and a Mandobird! What's the Spring Break sticker all about? Looks wicked on it, I reckon they should all come with them.
