  • I noticed that they are advertising above and was just wondering if anyone had any experience with them, before I decide to spend £15 on a nice tweed cycling cap?

oh and an Ebay store as well http://stores.ebay.co.uk/CONVICTS-OF-THE-ROAD

  • 8700+ positive ratings on eBay. Not enough? One of them is from me for a vintage cycling jersey. I can't say much about their caps but "A+++ seller - would buy from them again. "

  • VeloDog is a business I’ve set up to go alongside the eBay shop I already run. I thought it was about time to come up with my own stuff to sell as well as the retro gear I sell on eBay.

Initially VeloDog will be producing a range of handmade cycling caps, stitched here in South East London by our professional tailor.

The caps are made using British wool and tweed tailors’ offcuts. There's also a range of caps made by recycling cotton t-shirts. Each cap will either be unique or part of a very limited run.

The aim is to create locally designed and made products, using British materials where possible and to be 'nice but not pricey'. I’ve got a load more caps in production as well as 4 t-shirts that should be out in a couple of months or so.

I’m aiming to get down to the next LMNH bike jumble in July but my wife has just had a baby so it depends on whether I’m allowed out of the house by then. Some of the caps are also available at a couple of local bike shops - There Cycling in Ealing & Bike Boutique in Winchmore Hill. The plan is to get a handful over other stockists over the next couple of months too.

I’m offering free first class UK shipping and free airmail shipping too. There’s a no questions asked returns policy.

If there are any problems you can always get hold of me on here or via the website. I'm also happy to receive comments about the products as it's still a pretty new venture and I think it's important to keep improving what's on offer.

    Cheers,
    Pablo

  • Agreeable prices and an admirable mission statement, I like.

  • just purchased a tweed cap, will let people know what its like when it arrives. Personal email was a nice touch already though..

  • Just got two more caps finished off to add to the range; one is made of a lovely piece of Super 160's grey pinstripe wool suiting and the other is a bronze/gold 100% Merino wool cap.

Both are available now from the website.

I've also just picked up two cuts of genuine handwoven Harris tweed so they will be chopped up and on the sewing machine in the next week or so. One is a nice charcoal grey, the other is a beige colour with red & blue check.

  • i'm not into tweed etc, but i would consider the bradley,
do you have a few in stock?

  • also, do you have any plans to make plain black ones?

  • Got a batch of 5 or so of the 'Wiggins' fresh off the machine this morning. Should be good to go on the website now or pm me and I'll send you our paypal address.

  • also, do you have any plans to make plain black ones?

Yes, I've got plans to do a plain black cotton one as well as a black barbour cotton cap. Probably on the machine within the month. I'm always on the lookout for quality plain black wool fabric so hopefully there'll be a wool one in the pipeline soon too.

  • These look very nice - especially the pinstripe one, but I'd need to try one for size first. I have a fairly large head, and a lot of cycling caps don't fit.

I'm in the same situation. Based on the returns policy I might well go for it though.

I've got a fairly large bonce too (59-60cm) so I'm used to cycling caps not fitting properly; They're a snug but comfortable fit on me and I reckon there's probably still 1 or 2cm wiggle room upwards. I'm using one inch thick elastic to make them more stretchy to basically fit as many shaped heads as possible.

Everyone prefers a different fit but the balance for me is that I obviously don't want the cap to cut off blood supply but I also don't want to look like Elmer Fudd during wabbit season. If things get going properly I'll probably be able to knock up different sizes for each run but for the moment it's having to be 'one size fits most'.

As I say, all being well I'm aiming to get to the July jumble at LMNH so folks can try them on but the main point of the no questions asked returns policy is that if you buy one over the t'internet and don't like the fit you can send it back to me for a full refund.

  • Sounds good to me. Just trying to decide which I like best :)

  • there's an eddy cap. need.

  • black barbour cotton cap.

    I'm interested

Just placed an order for the Robinson, look forward to receiving it. I may even model it as well.

  • Just recieved my Velodog cap in the post this morning.
Seems very well put together and it certainly fits my large head.

    So far I'm impressed.

  • Could you please keep back 1 of each of the three Dragon Ball caps, I'll buy them on the 5th when I get paid,

    Thanks, Barry

  • Just a quick note to let you know that I'm away from tonight on a stag do. Back in London on Sunday evening.

All caps ordered up to now (1700) have been shipped. Anything bought from now until sunday will be posted on Monday morning.

I'm not going to have access to the forum but I'll be able to pick up emails so if you've got any questions in the meantime you can get hold of me on mail@velodog.cc

Just what I was thinking as I was reading this thread. Definitely will be looking to get one of these on my bonce some time soon.

  • Just a quick note to let you all know I'm back in London and caps are shipping as normal again.

I managed to pick up a couple of lengths of some really nice authentic handwoven Harris Tweed at the weekend.

One length is a light and dark brown weave with a red and blue check pattern:

The other length is a dark charcoal grey weave with a white/light grey fleck:

Both lengths are being chopped up as we speak and the first caps should be off the machine and available for sale by mid-July.

  • Got my "Simpson" last weekend. Very please with it, although it is a little snug on my odd shaped bonce.

  • Ordered my 'Wiggins' on Tuesday night, arrived Thursday morning and got to say I'm really happy with it, really well made and great service.

  • Unless there's a childcare disaster over the next 12 hours I'll definitely be turning up at LMNH tomorrow morning with a selection of wool/tweed/t-shirt caps.

I've also got some retro winter caps that I picked up in Belgium and some other vintage bike bits that I'll be flogging.

  • Ah those Harris ones ready yet? Not exactly summery but i'm well up for one!
