Your favourite routes to Wells

  • What way do you guys like to take when cycling to Wells-next-the-sea? I would usually go...

Out on the Reepham Road to Reepham
    Guestwick
    Hindolveston
    Fulmodeston
    Little and Great Snoring
    Little Walsingham
    Wighton
    Wells

This is about 35 miles from the centre of Norwich and fairly direct. I don't remember it being an unpleasant route, but it's been a while since I rode it.

Wells is a popular destination - how do you like to get there? Adding a bit of distance is ok if it makes for a nicer ride in one way or another. Or perhaps you'd go different ways if you were "thacking it out there" compared to rolling along with camping gear and food? Or with weaker cyclists in your group? And so on

  • I was pondering the same thing just the other day and decided on this route. ie as short as possible without going on main roads.

That's the one, same as mine except you miss out Walsingham, probably a good idea. I'll try it out.

By the way, was that map drawn automatically or can you plot it yourself? I used to always use mapmyride.com but it's such a heavy and slow design these day (or my computer is getting old). This one works niceley, though: http://bikeroutetoaster.com/

  • I just tell Google Maps the start and end points, select walking mode to avoid main roads and adjust by dragging the blue line about.

Very rarely follow the actual route, just write down place and road names as pointers. Is Walsingham the place with the shrine? I once got held up there when I had to stop for a pilgrimage passing through.
