Wanted: Shimano rear mech

Has anyone got an old 300 or 500 lx (7 speed) rear mech they want to get rid of?

I have one for £8 shimano ultegra 600 7 speed. If at all interested. cheers c_c

I've got a 7 speed megarange long cage you could have for £3 including postage. Think the hanger bolt is missing mind.

What's the difference between long cage and normal? Is it literally a matter of the cage being about an inch or so longer?
I'm also after a 7 speed but have no preference, just something cheap and working!

That's got me thinking actually - will an old 6 speed derailleur work with a 7 speed setup?

BD - yes, cage is just longer, lateral movement of parallelogram is identical. Colnago Costa has a short cage ^^^^^.
PP - thanks for the offer, but arabesque would be just so wrong for this bike.
BD -If you are using friction shifting then yes, indexing makes it a little more complicated, but certain combinations could work.

Sorry if it seems like I'm hijacking this thread at all... I've just bought some sora 7sp lever/shifters, will they work with an mech like a suntour vx on a standard 7sp shimano freewheel?

Probably not.
The indexing is in the lever, pull on cable is converted to transverse motion at rear mech. So unless the mechanical geometry (?) of the Suntour mech matches that of the Shimano (unlikely?) then it will fail.

I think I get it. I have a shimano deore mtb mech as a backup, is that more likely to work due to it being made by the same manufacturer?
