  • I think I managed one point on that points race. Just wanted to go round in circles for a bit... (think my sprint in the scratch rather tired me out)

  • Really enjoyed the evening. Great crowd and lovely weather..Oh and thanks for the lead out Tom.

  • yeah.. great fun tonight.
I killed myself in the first scratch race too!

@ FixedCheese, It was me and Senor Bear who rode with you in the team sprint. Good effort!

Nice to meet you guys. Cheers for the encouragement! Tonight was my fourth time ever at the track and second Monday night, I love it a little bit more each time I go.

  • Anyone know if this is happening tomorrow? Herne Hill website seems to suggest it might be.

  • Looks like it should be on tonight. Watch this space.

  • Excellent - have been away and wanted a last chance to ride the track before the resurface.

  • So I'm assuming tonight is on, as the HH site states that it expects Wednesday to be the start of the resurfacing?

  • The resurfacing is happening a little later than thought - so there are two more Monday sessions.

Make the most of it, the track will now shut on 18th July.

  • Also, from what I've heard, the riders who came down last night did suffered a broken colar bone a wrist between them. Very bad luck - as far as I know, this is the worst of the handful of crashes there have been this year.

Dulwichrider might pop up at some point to say hello, since he'll now have even more free time than he was planning. Heal up guys!

  • ooh err. a little more detail for those of us who chose, wisely it would appear, to go the pub instead? devil getting a bit too elbow heavy?

  • Who went down? What a bummer.
Good to hear it was nothing too serious.

    GWS to all involved!

  • It was a touch of wheels coming round the banking to take the bell in the scratch race. All I saw were people going down in front of me and with nowhere to go I just aimed for the grass, tried to hop the debris and curled into a ball as much as possible as I went over the handlebars. Got some oozing corners but nothing broken. Get well soon everyone.

Now, I don't know exactly the cause of this accident but I will say, regarding accidents like this, if it's just a touch of wheels during a race then so be it, it happens, but if you consistently overlap wheels with the guy in front you massively increase the chances of this type of thing happening. If you want to be close to the guy in front (not overlapping), be on the upslope side of his wheel so that if you find the gap closing and your wheels overlapping all you have to do is ride up the slope a little bit, even 10-15cm up the slope will do sometimes. This will slow you down and you'll fall back a bit. Then you just ride down the slope again to moderate your speed back up again. This way you never have to overlap wheels and you don't have to 'brake' and accelerate.

  • ouch.
I have noticed a lot of half-wheeling going on at the busier sessions recently.

  • Well that was quite a bang. It was my collarbone that bust plus a great clonk on the head that saw me looping phrases for much of Monday night (plus ca change some might say) ...

I can't remember what happened at all but the versions I have heard dont correspond to the above. All I hope people will draw from it is to be very careful cos even small mistakes can have big consequences.

Can someone lend me a turbo?

  • I'll be driving out to the suburbs at the weekend - if you're serious, I'll happily drop it off.
(you're out Cudham way now, no?)

  • Ouch. GWS, dulwichrider.

  • shit, hope youre ok Tom!

  • my wife thinks I'm crazy but I am serious about the turbo! I'll pm you 6pt - cheers

  • I think you're crazy too. You'll probably get more use out of it in this window than I ever have though, so whatever :)

  • get well soon Dulwichrider.
I think that Stelle is hitting the turbo too.
Maybe is good to speak to her

  • Bad luck, Tom. Hope you heal quickly.

  • We on tonight?

  • Yea. Requests night! Start with a warm-up scratch, then we'll be open to any requests...nothing to complicated, and don't get offended if your request is ignored.

  • general racing fun please!
