  • It was a touch of wheels coming round the banking to take the bell in the scratch race. All I saw were people going down in front of me and with nowhere to go I just aimed for the grass, tried to hop the debris and curled into a ball as much as possible as I went over the handlebars. Got some oozing corners but nothing broken. Get well soon everyone.

Now, I don't know exactly the cause of this accident but I will say, regarding accidents like this, if it's just a touch of wheels during a race then so be it, it happens, but if you consistently overlap wheels with the guy in front you massively increase the chances of this type of thing happening. If you want to be close to the guy in front (not overlapping), be on the upslope side of his wheel so that if you find the gap closing and your wheels overlapping all you have to do is ride up the slope a little bit, even 10-15cm up the slope will do sometimes. This will slow you down and you'll fall back a bit. Then you just ride down the slope again to moderate your speed back up again. This way you never have to overlap wheels and you don't have to 'brake' and accelerate.
