This is so true and a very good point. If London is supposed to be a cycling city, why are there not more bike racks. Hopefully people who can do somethign about it will pick up on the thread and do something about it.

Jessiclees, cycle stands are always being installed, but as London is constantly changing, others are removed at the same time, too. Overall, levels are increasing, but you're quite right that the pace of installation should accelerate.
The main problem is that there is comparatively little footway space in London, especially in the areas busiest with walking, and we're not far advanced yet politically to have in-carriageway car parking bays replaced with cycle parking bays consistently everywhere, although it is starting to happen in some areas.
Also, as I'm sure you know, cycle stands don't necessarily cause lower levels of bike theft. They may do if they're well-positioned, with good passive surveillance, etc., but getting all these things right is a bit of a dark art. :)
