I was thinking the same thing a few days ago, but I concentrated my efforts on a few youtube comments instead.
The perfect summation of the man can be found at 4.10 into this clip, wait till you see the expression of the bearded guy sitting in the background.

We've seen Bikerfox's lookalike in Chiswick today. I actually mentioned it to Moog.

Tubs on the road- tape, or glue?
Carbon rims with Vittoria Corsa 320TPI

Glueeee
-
• #14089
That's what I suspected.
Has anyone used both tape and glue, and can report on their experiences and weigh in?
Have you used tape Tom?
-
• #14090
Tape. Tufo Extreme.

wait for andyp or other real cyclist type to offer an actual informed opinion before listening to me.
not used tape. -

as far as tape and glue goes, it's really only useful if you are running low pressure. mostly relevant in cross racing. it's fairly difficult to roll a road tubular if you glue it properly when running it at high pressure, even on a course that has a lot of leaning/hard turning.
trying to take off a glued and taped tubular usually ends up destroying the tire....so its effectiveness is unparalleled.
I also personally avoid tape (except on the track), I have heard too many mixed results to trust it on the street. On the track there aren't too many occasions that I have to worry about rolling a tubular and you're also running tires at a super high PSI so that just helps you that much more.
also to note is that some companies don't recommend tape on carbon rims...even voiding the warranty. something about when you pull the tape off it can delaminate the rim slowly, unlike with glue where you scrub it off.

not used tape. We've been there already. That's why I wrote "tape".
Just watch... -

It depends on where you plan to ride them (as EEI knows I'll say). Tape is great for riding in the UK, but if you're planning on using them on long mountain descents then personally I'd go for glue for some peace of mind.
-
• #14095
I was set on glue (sorry) until someone mentioned that the heat build up that carbon rims are known for was not a good mix with glue, and that tape might be better.
-
• #14096
What fuckwit was that?
-
• #14097
Ah, thanks for that Andy.
I was going to switch to alloy for climbing/descending due to having "the fear" of carbon and heavy braking.
-
• #14098
continental makes a carbon specific glue. it is basically made to withstand a bit higher heat.
and to be honest, the heat issue is only relevant if you are flying down the alps holding your brakes the entire time all the way. for everyday riding and regular races you will be fine.

Happy ending.
Alps - glue
CX - glue and tape
Road - glue or tape
Tarc - glue
Hoxton - tape (Tufo not Jantex!) -

These wheels will be going to the Alps.
My intention was to swap to the EA90's for climbing days though.
However, I'd have to swap the brake pads each time, and I reckon there is a strong possibility I'd be too lazy.
I guess what it comes down to is that I'm eager to use the wheels, and tape seems like a nice shortcut whereas glue will take until next weekend, if doing the four layer and cure thing.
Ouch!^
