  • A formality for Gilbert. Brilliant finish.
Extra drug tests for Rojas please.
I love the way Carlton Kirby becomes a screaming, shouting maniac when called upon.

  • I believe that is Gilbert's 8th win in a row.

  • hhhmmmm not sure if i like it when crashes split the tour like that. still giving Evans that lead is a bit like having a handicap system

  • Not getting caught behind a crash - and there is always a big crash on the first day - is part of the skill of being a TdF contender.

  • Great way to start the tour. Crash bang wallop..

  • Great start to the tour. Nice to Cadel fit and right up there he deserves a good tour. Great ride form Geraint Thomas and a good team time trial could see a welshman in yellow!

  • G Thomas white jersey again

  • GC up and Wiggins and the rest of the second crash group are +6 only, Contador and original crash at +1:20

  • Cheaters never prosper.

  • Excellent start to Le Tour... Nice one, jaygee... x

  • Yes. Watching Le Tour in garden = win.

  • I believe that is Gilbert's 8th win in a row.

Not quite, he's won the last 8 races he's entered, but one of them was the Ster Elektroer (or whatever it's called now) stage race, where he won one stage and the overall but not the other 4 stages.

    Still, he's phenomenal isn't he?

  • May be a stupid question, but why was Gilbert wearing national colours?

  • He's a nationalist?

  • May be a stupid question, but why was Gilbert wearing national colours?

Because he won the Belgian national championships last Sunday. He wears that jersey until next June.

  • So... are there not loads of national champions in the field?

  • Yes, quite a few. Chavanel, Cancellara and Wiggins off the top of my head.

  • Gotcha... I remember seeing Cancellara in red and white now. thanks

  • Nicki Sørensen as well...

  • Is there any North Londoners watching this in a pub on a regular basis, be good to get a mob together

  • I'm moving down to London tonight. Is there anywhere I could catch the highlights, LMNH? What time are they on? I should be in town in a couple of hours.

I'm in town now, but going to settle in and watch the highlights on ITV Player. If anyone fancies meeting up and watching some TdF in a pub post work, I'd be up for that.

  • Not sure what's happening here...
Lots of riders interspersed with the peleton registering a time of 00.06., even among riders with 01.20. Was that last crash within the final km, so they all get given the same time? If so, why the six seconds? I saw Wiggins trickle in in the Contador group, but he's registered as 00.06.
    Anyone?
    Andyp?
Linky to what I'm rabbiting about.

  • Anyone know where I can find the team starting order for time trial tomorrow.. Googled everything I could think of.. Not on Steep Hill or cycling fans??

Wiggins et al were in the forward bunch and crashed within the last 3k so they get the same time as the leader despite finishing behind Contador who was in the chasing pack.

  • ^ This. Confusing end with two bunches of riders who had crashed separately all mixed up and the judges having to look at the footage to check who belonged to which group. The rule used to be 1k rather than 3 which would have made a big difference today.
