  • Get on the courts committee then dude!

  • I think the NA courts are too big, just loop around your goal and go hell for leather to the other end? Big courts make the game look clunky/sparse in my opinion, they're making "tic tac toe" plays in 5% of the available space, weak.

I'm hoping L'Equipe go to the Worlds and own the big courts, polo fit cyborgs that they are.

In London our courts are too small though (space is at a premium), I'd like to see 20m x 30m as the norm personally.

  • what size do you think the EHBPC courts were Jon? The ones in the sun.

    #justinterested

  • The ones in the sun were 17 "lengths" long and the one indoors was 19 lengths, such a relatively small difference, but the indoor court felt great and the outdoor courts felt "ok".

No idea about actual size in meters though, the London Open courts would ideally be bigger (18.5m x 27m is Downs size I think), but it's hard work to find bigger areas in London.

  • I think the indoor one was the right size tbh. But watching some footage of games on the outdoor courts, you realise they really were too small. It stifles the passing game, and makes it pretty easy to defend as there isn't really anywhere for attackers to go!

  • 40X20 is the way to go

  • fibonacci ftw

It was hard to judge whether the court size was big enough, because of the low boards. I thought the indoor court was ok, size-wise, but the small court was way too small.

I was slightly frustrated that the goals had not been measured before placement (the 2 goals on the inside court were set at different distances from the back-board), and that none of the centre spots were actually in the centre of the court. I desperately wanted to go and get a tape measure, and get the courts right, but I had already made myself so unpopular with certain sections of the Euro bike polo community that I really didn't want to make a fuss.

  • we need a European body where we can regulate all this things.... uniform courts sizes from tourney to tourney, until them, all this talks are pointless

and following Cam's image, 34x55 FTW

    Ha!

  • are l'equipe going to go to seattle?

  • Lucas was up for it when I spoke to him in Barca.

  • who is going from London?

  • Not sure, definitely not Degen. £500+ for a ticket? Phew.

  • I wanna go. Need a team

I was in Battersea Park with Lori on Thursday... They have a massive tarmac events area in the middle of the park that's in great condition, I used to play street hockey there as a kid... Might be worth considering for next year's Open... I reckon you could get about 8 full-size courts in there, maybe more... Would be a great location if London ever hosted the Worlds... Big pic below to give you a sense of scale...

what about you, Brendan and Rupert, are Dead Rappers and Cosmic going??

  • I haven't booked anything, can't afford time off work or the money.

But I'd love to go. We need to keep the american's egos in check. 50/50 top ten at the last worlds remember! They'll try and forget it but that's the truth!

  • not so many european teams going, it seen...

If you press CTRL+0*, the white lines on google maps will disappear. (you're slightly zoomed, which messes them up)

*on most browsers - resets zoom.
