Yes Jessiclees as Oliver says do post about your stolen bike here with as much detail as possible on the bike and the theft and do contact Cycle Task Force, do a search for their details. However, if you then see your stolen bike being advertised on gumtree or eBay while looking for it don't post on this thread saying something like:
OMG hav just seen my stolen bike on gumtree n heres the link xxxxxxxx am gonna call the seller now and arrange to meet them wiv my brother and all his mates and a baseball bat...
Because this will very probably alert the thief that you now know where your stolen bike is. They pull the ad. You don't get any closer to your bike. Unfortunately this sort of thing has already happened a few times here. M'kay.
Ha ha, got it. Thanks very much for the advice will do as you suggest and leave my brother and baseball bat at home!

No, do post your bike, ideally with pictures, but also make sure to send pictures to the Cycle Task Force. Just don't post on here when you've seen a Gumtree ad or eBay listing, as this might make sellers nervous. Send all this information directly to the police. I assume you've seen this thread:
Hi Oliver,
I hadn't seen this thread, so thanks for posting again.

I hadn't seen this thread, so thanks for posting again.
Oh and I can't post until tomorrow as I need to be a memeber for 24 hours, currently just in nursery, but will do so as soon as I can. Thanks to Oliver and VanUden for the advice

But if you're posting here now what's to stop you from posting your stolen bike here? We're not saying don't post your stolen bike here we're saying yes do post it here. This is the stolen bikes thread.
We're just saying that if you happen to see your stolen bike on gumtree or eBay don't advertise the fact you've seen your bike on gumtree or eBay on this thread.

You can't post a new thread yet but you can post in existing threads, as VanUden suggests. It's better not to start new threads for most stolen bikes, anyway. More people will see it if it's in here.

OK, new to all this so thanks again.
My matt black Specialized Sirrus Sport 2011 was stolen from near Guys hospital on Monday 27th June. It has a silver bor yueh pannier rack and black bottle cage. They left the front wheel which is still locked to where I put the bike.
Sadly it is only 6 weeks old, so I can't say much else about it, and it is a popular make of bike. Still you never know!
It was parked outside two packed cafes and I guess noone noticed, so they must have been quick.

anyone lost a dolan - he's advertising it as a road frame and his seller history is showing him shifting a load of random bikes, looks knicked

Had an old Raleigh racer stolen from outside my house in SW11 London this morning. Pretty distinctive with yellow handles and tyres, bike not worth much but had put bit into it, and a years worth of love. Also had nicely worn a Brook's saddle... if anyone spots it out and about please let me know! http://twitpic.com/5ikyot

Went from outside my house this morning. Since this photo I've put a Brooks saddle on it (nicely worn in too!)
It sill has the yellow tyres, and handle bars. Pretty distinctive I've never seen another model like it.
That's the 2nd one that's gone from my garden now... If anyone spots it, please yell!

How do people like this get away with it for so long... Selling nicked goods on ebay is pretty stupid. All it would take is someone posing as buyer, ask for the address, and go around with the fuzz (if they know the frame number).
He'd be banged to rights -

The listing has it as a "top of the range road bike" which given the track ends and forks is paerhaps slightly unusual for a road bike.

Chain is included because the moron doesn't know how to remove it!
-
• #6641
That's cynical. It's obviously an act of generosity to offset the bad karma from nicking loads of bikes...
-
• #6642
Would be good if Gumtree had a similar stance on stolen goods as ebay though

Ok so who owns the White fixed Rauler locked in the racks at sainsburys whitechapel? White Selle Italia saddle and White tape on the right drop / none on the left, front brake on top and Mavic rims. It's been abus chained there for a week plus and the vultures are circling. Front wheel gone as of at least yesterday and someones had a go at the lock. It's a matter of time until this bike is stripped out completely.
If you own it what are you playing at? If you know who owns it get them to rescue it eh? It's not in top nick or anything but I'd be really surprised anyone wants to see it pillaged.
FYI I've tipped off security there that it's being progressively attacked and they really couldn't give a fuck.
Right I'm bumping this.
There are now 3 bikes 'abandoned' in the Sainsbury's Whitechapel racks. I crashed a conversation the manager was having with the customer services lady this morning. They are about to break the locks and "scrap" what's left of the bikes. They were debating the best way to cut the locks.
I mentioned that I thought some folks might fancy a couple of the frames. The manager Sandy said that if someone rocks up with the necessary kit to cut the locks and has a word with him over the next few days, they can help themselves.
I said I'd mention it on here.
The Rauler (now frame and Mavic rear wheel only) would make an excellent beater. It's about a 55cm frame and is locked with a mid weight Abus chain.
There's a clunky looking MTB, which I didn't pay much attention to and a pink and black Peugeot 'Scorpion' small with a perfectly serviceable black rear rack, locked with an Abus D.
Help yourselves. But ask Sandy first. This time next week they'll be fridge magnets.

spotted in south londn (se8) a red specialized langster single speed with polished rims and sugino cranks in excellent condition. definitely stolen. the person who was riding it was attempting to sell it for 40 pounds. he said it was his but it was clearly three sizes too big for him. i tried to get a picture of him but failed, sorry.

Take it as a spam - but I think it's relevant to this thread.
I am student at CSM woking on project concerning bicycle crime in London.
Currently I am raising £350 via wefund.com to build a trackable sting-bike
to test out GPS tracking for cyclists in real world conditions -
in other words - I'll try to catch some bicycle thieves.More info here:

Let's bash some bastards:)!

So,
I was sitting watching the tennis in the beer garden of The Albion pub on Goldsmiths Row, just down from Broadway market.
A couple roll up on a pair of folders (one Dahone, one Brompton) they tie them together with a liqorice lace and leave them leaning on the wall.Tennis gets interesting.
All of a comotion and I turn around to see the feeble lock lying snipped on the floor and two scallies making good with their legs down the street on the two folders.
Calamity ensues.
I give chase, with the rest of the beer garden in close pursuit.
Long story short, I caught one of the fuckers!
The Dahone disappeared into the estate but I managed to get a hand on the seat post of the Brompton to take the fucker off.He hit the floor and started running, I wasn't going to give chase anymore, we had the bike.
I'm glad he did run hard because the braying crowd of East London Lager men who also gave chase would've given him a fucking hiding.
One even told me that something like this happened a couple of years ago. They caught him, took all his clothes off wrote THIEF on his chest and made him walk through the estate naked.Anyway, I returned to the pub with the Brompton and was treated to hero's welcome and free pints!
Pretty pleased with my self.

Have some rep for vigilantism! Additionally I hope you gave the owner of the bike a stern lecture about the perils of using a liquorice ace cable lock.

Yeah, I thought about saying something but it might just have been rubbing salt into the wound.
I did say to the woman whose bike wasn't recovered that she should get down to Brick Lane market first thing to have a look and her reply was
"yeah, that's where I bought it"So she is already complicit in the cycle of theivery/loss/resale.
Still, sorry for her loss. -

More like why they didn't take two folding bikes in with them, as that is the major point of having them??
