I love gmail how simple it is yet at the same time you can be completely anal about organisation if you want to be.
As long as they keep this simple I can see Google on to a winner here.
They also have the clout of the android OS behind them (something which no social network ever has), every user who has an android phone has a google account who I'd imagine will all automatically have google+ account in due course.
