  • piss. see you at 8 though!!

  • yes

  • due to having two bikes in the wrong parts of town. My polo bike is North, my roadie is at adam's. I am bikeless. I am also pretending to still have a non-polo social life and by generally ballsing up my organisation, I canne make it tonight. I am very sad. But will anyone play on Saturday?

Have fun tonight ladies... but not too much fun!

  • you about for some polo on Sunday Zoe?

Also, what size Pompinos is everyone riding out of interest?

  • i'm up for polo sunday..

  • newington sunday..if anyone wants an all girls game befroe lets get there at 4pm!!

  • should manke it. Going over, saff west to see me ma, but was gonna head to peckham in the eve i think anyway. Won't make it for 4 me thinks

  • Nice one. What time is people heading down?

  • I can get there for 2, I think.. But 4 is fine too.

  • Tomorrow!

    The sun WILL shine.

  • It will, it will!

    See you all there.

    :D

  • My first Lady poloist spot on Sunday, swear it was Margz but it may have been another blonde lady on a green bike (Pompino I think?)...I shouted at you just before Shoreditch junction. Wanted to come play but was shattered from my first century the day before! Got my first team praccy tonight - not gonna lie, I'm worried about the Open being my first out of Birmingham tourney (seeing as ABC got rained off last time I was down)!

  • Sounds like Jo on a green pomp. ^ Margz haz blue.

I'm out for tonight, got cut up on the OKR and went over the handlebars. Struggling to walk so I guess polo is a no go.

    racist

  • that sucks joni!

  • I know :( Was determined I'd still play but can't really walk atm. More annoyingly I NEED to get to the hardware store so I can fit my sweet new face cage. Meh.

Might still come down if it's on?

  • Yeh come down anyway. It's sunny out so I'd say it's still on.

I saw Eileen this morning around Aldwych. We put were stuck in epic tropical downpour. She was much more sensibly dressed than I, however. Silly optimistic Australian that I am.

  • Sorry to hear that Jones. Hope there's no permanent damage! If it's any consolation, I missed team practice due to retarded tyre not fitting my wheel :( Never been so upset before... taking polo too serious

Is a face cage really necessary? I've seen some of you ladies wearing full leg pads too - my poor knees deffo need some protection. Are they football ones? (possibly stupid question and should check the proper thread)

  • Just a bruise the size of my thigh. And wrist and chest. Odd that I've come off my polo bike many times but it hurts more on the commute apparently.

    Protection Thread:
    http://www.lfgss.com/thread20810-17.html

I personally have 2 levels of protection, one for throw ins, other for team games.

I only wear full leg pads and face cage for more aggressive games (league / tourney) but I really feel that the game is getting a lot faster and more aggressive so should probably wear full protection the whole time.

It depends how hard your throw ins are perhaps. If you feel like you could get a mallet in the face, then it might be an idea to get a cage. If you feel like someone shot could break your shin then get full length pads.

    These are my thoughts anyway.

I would say don't worry about it too much.

  • Road falls always hurt more! Less adrenaline perhaps?

Thanks lady, am already perusing it. I'm one of only two players who bothers wearing a lid for Bham throw-ins. Some people don't even wear gloves! (madness) Definitely looking into pads though, the kids I teach Bikeability get scared all my cuts and bruises are just from riding normally! imho I play much better/more aggressively when I'm protected so protection is what I'm getting!!

  • Hmm, adrenaline could be right. That and beer I guess.

Check http://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/ for pads. I got mine cheap from here with a bit of persistence. Or Chainrecationcycles have great sales.

  • i wear a facecage now at all times, principally to get used to it. it totally fucks with my vision if i haven't been wearing it in throw ins but have to don it in a tournament.

but i also wear a facecage now in case i a) smash my face into the grill/barriers, b) get hit with a mallet or a ball and c) because the hockey helmet protects the smashable parts of the skull that a racing helmet doesn't - in cycling crashes, i have tended to hit to side/top regions of my head, but in polo crashes i tend to hit the parts of the head that hockey helmets protect (i.e. lower side).

i wear knee pads and shin guards and elbow guards. i am tending to apply the rule, if i would in hockey, i should in polo.

you should always pick a theme with polo protective wear - i.e. stormstrooper, white knight or black knight.

and the fact that you probably go twice as fast on the road!

    Best advice ever.

    You haven't seen me ride.

PS, anyone haz any arnica? Apparently this helps with bruises. I wanna play polo tonight goddamnit!
