Yo Brighton people, I am moving back to Brighton in 2 weeks, and in urgent need of a job.

Hmmm, what sort of experience have you got Woody? Brighton isn't great for jobs but knowing this may help. Amex are still building a massive new building on John Street, so it might be worth looking at their jobs.

Got a degree, got bar manager experience, and teaching experience, and office experience, and retail too, sort of jack of all trades...

First thing's first then. Sign on, it takes a while for them to process your claim so best to get it started ASAP - It's only once every 2 weeks and it's not a great amount but remember, it's one of the things you pay tax and national insurance for so use it.

Gumtree has lots of bar jobs, although I never received a single reply from any I applied for.

Telesales is big in Brighton, but it's soul sucking, depends how desperate you are.

Agencies are useful too, I have gotten several full-time jobs from agency placements. Just sign up to them all, something will come through.

What you are doing though, is the best way. Ask everyone you know, a word from a friend is the most powerful tool for getting your foot in the door.

Been and done telesales in Brighton too many times, I'd rather do anything than that it's too soul destroying. Think I'll try the hotels first, as I have experience running a hotel bar up here in Manchester, but will keep looking for something less menial!

I was unemployed for a year due to laziness, ennui and a distaste for labour. Labour as in graft, although I do have a healthy distaste for the political party too. I may have dressed it up as some form of protest but that's just me, I like to appear much more principled and resolved than I ever actually am. Money is good if you don't have to bust your hump to get it!

Unfortunatly not as good as they should be, can work my way around a Fixie skidder or polo bike, but when it comes to the useful complicated parts im pretty inexperienced

@elvis, does that mean there is a mechanic job going somewhere? I fear for the amount of hours Evans are able to give me come next week when i finish uni. Im not cytech but am officially experienced and non-official long term meddler in various workshops

Never been to the pub myself, don't think anyway, but I'll deff drop by with a CV. I enjoy bar work, and can't be any worse than serving £9 G&T's to barristers and jumped up wedding guests

Cheers, was gonna ask in the bike shops. It's a bit frustrating as I am not working in Manchester this week, but I am not in Brighton till next monday, wanna be out CV'ing in the sun today but im packing up my house instead
