Hmmm, what sort of experience have you got Woody? Brighton isn't great for jobs but knowing this may help. Amex are still building a massive new building on John Street, so it might be worth looking at their jobs.

What are yo' skillz?

Haha shit well now i've oepened myself up to an online interview by forum!
Got a degree, got bar manager experience, and teaching experience, and office experience, and retail too, sort of jack of all trades... -

First thing's first then. Sign on, it takes a while for them to process your claim so best to get it started ASAP - It's only once every 2 weeks and it's not a great amount but remember, it's one of the things you pay tax and national insurance for so use it.
Gumtree has lots of bar jobs, although I never received a single reply from any I applied for.
Telesales is big in Brighton, but it's soul sucking, depends how desperate you are.
Agencies are useful too, I have gotten several full-time jobs from agency placements. Just sign up to them all, something will come through.
What you are doing though, is the best way. Ask everyone you know, a word from a friend is the most powerful tool for getting your foot in the door.
I'll keep my ear to the ground for you.

Cheers buddy. Can't sign on yet as I have one more day of work left on Saturday, but i'll be at the Dole office on Monday!
Been and done telesales in Brighton too many times, I'd rather do anything than that it's too soul destroying. Think I'll try the hotels first, as I have experience running a hotel bar up here in Manchester, but will keep looking for something less menial! -

Put an advert in the back of the Friday ad..
"WOODY. Jack off all trades."
You'll find work in no time. -

Danny, you and your wristy business have failed to take off. What gives? I had the cash waiting too.
Woody, take my advice with a pinch of salt. I was unemployed for a year!
-
• #10
i thought you were unemployed for a year on purpose, as protest against the cuts
-
• #11
I was unemployed for a year due to laziness, ennui and a distaste for labour. Labour as in graft, although I do have a healthy distaste for the political party too. I may have dressed it up as some form of protest but that's just me, I like to appear much more principled and resolved than I ever actually am. Money is good if you don't have to bust your hump to get it!

• #12
Woody, how are your spanner monkey skills?
-
• #13
Unfortunatly not as good as they should be, can work my way around a Fixie skidder or polo bike, but when it comes to the useful complicated parts im pretty inexperienced

The Setting Sun in Hanover are looking for bar staff, but only if you're desperate its a pretty gash place to work (i work in the kitchen). Would be happy to put in a good word if you give them a CV
-
• #16
Ok Woody, sorry might not be able to help then, unless you are a trained cycling instructor.
Jack, always looking for mechanics for teaching/dr bike gigs. Money will be better than you're on probably but hours are sporadic. Good supplementary income though if you fancy it.

Never been to the pub myself, don't think anyway, but I'll deff drop by with a CV. I enjoy bar work, and can't be any worse than serving £9 G&T's to barristers and jumped up wedding guests

You're looking at the right time Woody. Just make sure you get in before the Spanish grab all the jobs.
Get a job in a bike shop and work your way towards cytech?
