If you're on a tight budget, the Rigida Grizzly SE is actually a couple of quid cheaper than DP18s, and much better suited to 28C tyres. The rims are popular with the kind of people who ride unmade roads with full camping gear strapped to the bike. Get them built up with 36 spokes on the same Novatec hubs (sold under many other names, SJSC stock them in 36h) that Varno uses and you'll have a solid set of wheels. If you really want to go nuts, you can buy DT Alpine III spokes for the same price as Comps.
